Stanford Players in MLB - skip75 - 05-04-2025

I'm hoping that with a thread similar to the "Stanford Players in the NFL" thread, we can all keep track of Stanford players in MLB. Players I am aware of on MLB rosters are: Kris Bubic, Royals; Tommy Edman, Dodgers; Maverick Handley, Orioles; Nico Hoerner, Cubs; Erik Miller, Giants; Cal Quantrill, Marlins; Austin Slater, White Sox; Kyle Stowers, Marlins; and Tim Tawa, Diamondbacks.
Edman & Slater are currently on the IL.
Bubic had a nice start yesterday vs. the Orioles: 5 IP, 0 R 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K. ERA is now 1.98 over 41 innings in 7 starts.

I think Tristan Beck will be back, he's 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in the hitter-happy PCL...he's given up just 10 hits in 19 innings with 20 strikeouts and just six walks for a stellar 0.842 ERA (he could probably pitch for any team in MLB right now).

I've always liked Austin Slater. He was 1 for 2 as DH in the wild card last year for Baltimore.
He hasn't played much in 2025, but he's at 110 OPS+, third-best of his career. Line is .250/.250/.500/.750, a home run and two doubles in his five hits out of 20 ABs. He's played eight games, two as DH, five in RF, one PH appearance. He still has range, seven outs, no errors, range factor above league average. The White Sox are 10-24, but not because of Austin.

Good to hear the news about Handley. A year or two ago I checked on him. MLB.com said he’d been released. IIRC as always.

Kris Bubic continued his breakout season with 7 strong innings vs. the Twins yesterday. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits and 2 BBs with 9 Ks. He leads all MLB pitchers with a 3.1 WAR, and is 2nd in ERA (1.45), 2nd in quality starts (8 of 11 total starts), 6th in innings pitched (68.1), 9th in wins (5 - he's been "Cained" a few times, including yesterday when the Royals needed 10 innings to get the 2-1 win), and 14th in WHIP (1.01).
Also, in my original post of this thread, I neglected to mention A.J. Hinch. Until a recent 3-game losing skid, he had managed the Tigers to the best record in MLB. At 34-20, they still lead all AL teams and are only 1/2 game behind Philadelphia for the MLB lead. Hopefully the Giants can add to Detroit's 1-3 slide. They catch a break in missing Tarik Skubal & Casey Mize - hopefully they can take advantage of that.

Tristan Beck is back with the Giants. Threw one game, three innings, gave up two hits, one earned run, 0.67 WHIP, .182 BA. He looks sharp. Struck out two.

Mathews, who started the season at AAA Memphis, apparently did not look like himself in his first three starts, posting a 6.10 ERA. He was put on the injured list for about a month with shoulder soreness. More recently, he's had two rehab starts, in which he's pitched a combined five shutout innings.

Meanwhile, Tristan Beck is looking really good. Pitched two scoreless innings tonight and gave up zero hits or walks and had three strikeouts. 1.80 ERA.
