CAN THIS BE TRUE!

It says resign not retire... Is he being forced out? What news on a Monday!

RE: Bernard Muir to Resign - SkiBum80 - 02-24-2025

It true, perhaps not a surprise to some insiders, but certainly shocking to myself.

:-0

Just as long as he doesn’t take Kyle Smith with him… :-)

While it might be true, I will wait for an official university announcement. This is not an official Stanford account.

He should have been forced to resign after the failed attempt to cut Stanford sports. The fact that it didn’t happen then is a glaring example of poor leadership from MTL, Drell and the BoT.

Thankfully, we are in a new era of Stanford leadership. I want an AD who will fight for Stanford sports, not fight to kill them.

Kudos to Levin. Muir should have been pushed out years ago, though I think we disagree about cutting sports (varsity sailing? gimme a break). But he mismanaged every aspect of that process and, oh, mismanaged nearly every aspect of football and MBB.

RE: Bernard Muir to Resign - Gary86 - 02-24-2025

Muir lost me when he kept Jerod Haase two years longer than he should have. Six years is long enough to know what you have in a coach.

RE: Bernard Muir to Resign - Mick - 02-24-2025

It's about time. No idea how that individual stayed employed.

RE: Bernard Muir to Resign - Card10Fan - 02-24-2025

I think he’s made some good hires overall but also oversaw the steep decline of our football problem at the worst possible time with conference realignment. The Jerod Haase experiment was also absolutely dreadful. So major failures in football and basketball. The two most important revenue sports. I’m not sad to see him leave.

The question now becomes who is next. Stanford needs a home run hire.

yes, if it happens I would expect the plan was to announce tomorrow morning and it leaked this afternoon, quick responses are not what the University is good at so I would not expect anything official tonight

Saving my thoughts for when we figure out who the new director will be.  Athletic Director is a tough job, and change for change's sake is not always a winning strategy.

And Stanford has selected a new board chair, effective July 1, so I would think she would play a significant role in the selection of the new AD.

Who will be the acting AD?

RE: Bernard Muir to Resign - martyup - 02-24-2025

I would like to thank Andrew Luck.  IDK if he had anything to do with this, but I have my suspicions that he might have nudged a little in this direction.

So you're saying we should have stuck with Muir?

Could they poach Nina King from Duke?

relative young, black, female with experience at Nike, ND, and Duke
graduate of ND (BBA) and Tulane (JD) and mentee of Kevin White at ND and Duke

Let me see, using my powers of English reading comprehension, I feel like I said nothing of the sort.  Hope you can figure that out for yourself next time.

Appreciate the disparaging comment. Thanks.

And fwiw, I still read your comment as the alternative could be worse than Muir, and it might be too much a gamble to take. The grass is always greener kind of thing. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If I'm mistaken, what does "change for change's sake is not always a winning strategy" mean?

I wonder who will make up the search committee. I hope some of our best coaches are involved.

Great question - perusing through bios of the current DAPER leadership team, it's pretty much a bunch of newbies who either don't have a lot of strong (D1/Power 5 conference) AD leadership experience &/or who've only been on board the last year or so.  I could be wrong but the only exception I know of is Ray Purpur but IIRC, his area of expertise is facilities-related, not general AD administration.  Bueller? Bueller?.....
