The only thing fun at this point is your creative nicknames. Perhaps my annual php investment this offseason will go into overhauling the widget to allow the following week to automatically be a poll on the best nickname from the previous game.

Oh, is there a football game this weekend?

Consider it like the football version of The Bad News Bears… the early games

I successfully mentally blocked last season from my mind. I started this season as if it was TT's first, with a clean slate. I sure hope my mind will allow me to do that again.

Now THAT'S a good gif.
I just picked Stanford to lose to the current 14th place team in the ACC! Unless something changes, we will all need the MIB treatment at the end of the season. If we can choose then I want to reset to 2016, maybe just after the Rose Bowl?

My heart has betrayed me in the predictions too many times this season.
So my head yanked out the heart and stomped it into submission for a change.
Going with a "competitive" game a la Wake Forest.
But yet again too many mistakes in the secondary and elsewhere (always plenty to spread around).
Hence the hometown hirsute wolfpack ends up on top 24-17.
As always, hope I'm wrong.

As bad as you think it's going to be...it shouldn't be worse. 9 a.m. body clock time, cross country travel, injured, after NC State's bye week. The only team worse against the spread than Stanford (2-5-1) is NC State (1-6-1).

Good point. But wait, the spread looks to be 10, and it looks like you picked Wolfpack to win by 14?
So are you saying do not underestimate our guys abilities to raise the opponent to new and glorious heights above the spread?

You put it much more elegantly than I could. I'm saying a 9 a.m. body clock game, after a cross-country flight, against an opponent who has had an extra week's rest? 14 pt. win for the Wolfpack. Really, really hope I'm wrong.

I say this in fun, so nobody should get mad, but the scoring for this game seems odd to me! I predicted an NC State win of 41-13 (28 point margin), and lost to two guys who predicted an NC State win of 38-17 (21 point margin). Actual score was 59-28, so a 31 point margin. If I'm understanding the scoring, if you pick the winner and don't pick an exact score of either team, it comes down to coming closest to the overall point total of the game without factoring in the margin of victory. So someone who picked NC State to win a nail-biter of 44-43 would have gotten the most points. Seems like predicting margin of victory should matter!

I didn't make the rules, I just enforce 'em. We don't have an official process for updating the rules, but I'm happy to change the code on the backend. Do you have a proposal for a rule change that would capture what you're looking to achieve that we can bring to those on the cardboard far more versed in game theory than I?
It is crazy that 10 years ago I spent the football season obsessing over how we were getting screwed by ESPN / the SEC because they were too scared to play us in the National Championship game. 5 years ago I spent the football season parsing through David Shaw's comments looking for any sign that he was going to reignite the magic. 2 years ago I spent the football season railing against our stupid uniforms and why we couldn't just stick with the classics. And now I'm spending the football season using chatgpt to help me figure out archaic php message board software to run a game that around 30 people actually seem to play.

Thank you for your service. :) Seems like the main category for scoring could be closest to the margin of victory instead of closest to total points, meaning that the "error score" is margin of victory. Everything else the same including bonus points for correctly guessing scores. But I haven't gamed it out and I'm not going to, so all good. It was the first time I participated, and I knew I had the most pessimistic prediction. I'm not joking when I thought during the game that "hey, at least I'm going to win the prediction!" So I was surprised that I didn't, lol.

Well, I nailed Stanford's score at 28. If I would have just DOUBLED my prediction on NCST's score I would have been pretty close.
