Kevin Hogan signs with UFL team - needle - 04-17-2024

He's 31! Hasn't played in the NFL since 2021, but was on an NFL practice squad as recently as January 2023.

Hogan is considered the third QB on the roster of the San Antonio Brahmas, according to this article.

You truly have to love the game to practice, practice, practice and then mostly sit, for years and years.  He is one I hoped would have the a game or be at the right place at the right time and make the NFL.  Very, very hard.

If you consider the Browns an NFL team, he did make the NFL.  He even started a game for them.

He's among my favorite Stanford alums of all time as he accomplished what I thought would never be possible: a Rose Bowl championship.

I'll predict that Kevin Hogan starts at least one game in this upcoming season.

He's QB Three on a UFL team, after how many years since graduation? What does that say for the 40 year decision?

Not sure it says much of anything.  Just seems like Hogan really likes playing football.

So true. But let's not overlook that Hogan is estimated to have earned $2.7M gross as a journeyman backup QB. The 40-year decision is working out one way or another for him.

Not to me. I hope he's doing something useful in his spare time to prepare for post-UFL life. Who could forget his first pass to Christian McCaffrey in the Rose Bowl for a 75 yard TD?

Might not see a consistent starting Stanford NFL QB for a long time

Unless you’ve played at that level or been a rock star,  I think it’s hard to imagine the rush one gets from having 80,000 people cheering wildly for you.  Add that it’s something that’s been a major part of his life since he was a young kid and it’s understandable why he holds on as long as possible.

That's $337,500 per year on average, about 3 or 4 times what a typical undergrad makes in that time. And he's doing what he loves.  And he's gaining invaluable experience to coach, manage, commentate, or otherwise earn a living from football for decades to come.  And he's got heart.  Above all others, he's the one guy I'm still hoping has his true Rudy moment!  He sure deserves it.
