Welcome to the ACC! - luvUNChatedook1994 - 09-01-2023

Welcome to the ACC!  While Carolina officially voted no I was in favor!  Stanford/California is the west coast version of dook/Carolina!  As a Tar Heel we love that dook will no longer be top dog in academics to superciliously hang over everyone else!   I visited your lovely campus when we went to the Cal/Carolina game in 2018 and look forward to a return away game.  Again Welcome!

Very gracious of you and thanks for your message. You'll pardon this Stanford fan for not slavering over 3-4 East Coast road trips per year. And that's just football!

Thanks for the kind welcome!

2 out of the 3 schools to ever win the Directors' Cup will now be in the same conference. ;)

LOL, I've hated dook since Dick Vitale.  And it was a nice road trip to Durham a few years ago to beat them.  One of the few stadiums that was emptier than ours. And of course we had this guy named Andrew Luck.

You'll have to learn to spell our "sister" school --- kal

I like that!  We spell the team in Durham dook and Louisville's rival kensucky!  Ha ha!  Two exceotions: Duke Chapel and the excellent hospital Duke.

Thanks GT Jay!

So that's what a proactive sports marketing department looks like. They obviously started making that video days if not weeks ago.
Stanford's AD could take a lesson from Georgia Tech.

RE: Welcome to the ACC! - TriangleTree - 09-01-2023

Thanks GT and UNC fans
Awesome promo GGTech
The distance will be a challenge but otherwise a great fit. Hope UNC comes to appreciate the added value.
Best of luck in the season
Proud to be in the ACC

Thanks for the welcome. Geography will pose a challenge, but the ACC is a good home for us and our East Bay rivals.  Some have proposed that we rename the conference the All Coast Conference, but that would leave SMU up in the air.  In the madness of realignment, this is perhaps a result everybody can live with.  Still, seeing the Pac-12 disintegrate in a mere six weeks has been painful.

RE: Welcome to the ACC! - fullmetal - 09-01-2023

Thanks for the welcome post, LUHD1994 and GT Jay!  You'll find us strong rivals in women's soccer but aligned against dook and the rest of the ACC in many other sports.  I was surprised to learn that the ACC sponsored such breadth in varsity athletics, which speaks to a well-rounded student population and athletic fanbase.  Sports can be part of a great life; we don't live to only follow sports.

Apologies in advance for not traveling very well to the east coast, although it's not out of the realm of possibility.  It'll be interesting to see how our recruiting footprint changes; the athletic talent on the eastern seaboard might like to come over to California for four years ;)

And I have good friends who are GT alumni...the engineering and science departments will hopefully see mutual benefit from ACC association with Stanford and kal.

Now that I think about it, WHERE IS Jacket3ree when we need him?  Our resident GT/Stanford joint alum must have something to say about this!

We have never played you in football in your stadium and only once on Chapel Hill.  Twice neutral.  You won the last two neutral matches with Carolina winning the inaugural one.  Interesting fact, that game was the day of Princess Diana's funeral. Looking forward to a trip to your house!

I was at the Sun Bowl where we neutralized Mitch Trubisky before his 3rd overall draft pick status.  Heck of a game--we lost QB Keller Chryst early in the game to (iirc) a non-contact ACL injury, and Burns had to fill in.  Bryce Love ran fast and anchored the offense.  Solomon Thomas sacked Trubisky on what would have been the game-tying two-point attempt with 25 sec left in the game to seal the win for Stanford.

RE: Welcome to the ACC! - MojaveHeel - 09-01-2023

Welcome to the ACC.  A sports fan here, who attended Carolina like my father before me and his before him  Please do not be offended by UNC's negative vote on expansion.  As I recollect, they always vote no.  I feel safe saying the folks in South Building (those who run UNC), are glad to see your addition to the conference although they share your concerns about the travel impacts on student athletes.

As I now live in Baja, I have more recently attended football games in Palo Alto and Berkely than Chapel Hill.  Today I am an SDSU season ticket holder and will be in Snapdragon cheering for the Aztecs tomorrow night, after watching my Heels on tv.

I hope they find a way to make this new conference work as I have no interest in seeing my Tar Heels join either the B1G or the SEC, especially with that miserable bastard Sankey running  that conference.

hope my Heels will be coming to the Bay Area to play football soon!
