OT. Memorial Day - lex24 - 05-29-2023

Memorial Day. Unfortunately gets lost in three day sales etc. I did not serve (something I am not proud of). But I had family members that did. I know of no one, however, that paid the ultimate sacrifice. I know many on this board did serve and certainly lost friends and/or family members.

Today is about them and their loved ones. We remember you. And we honor you.

A lot of prior service folks I know don't understand why anyone would associate the word "happy" with "memorial day."  The holiday is there to remember the ones who didn't make it home.  It's not a happy occurrence, but it is (for many) a necessary one.  We should remember the cost of military service and conflict.  

Now Ukraine's war for survival gives added meaning to the concept of Memorial Day.  May they have the future opportunity to remember the sacrifice paid by many to ensure the freedom of their nation.

Fullmetal, you raise a great point.   Any suggestion for how to greet people on Memorial Day?  I did not serve, yet take it very seriously.   And it is not particularly "happy" to remember the enormous sacrifices made.

We also need to remember that there are still a good number of our fellow citizens whose remains remain missing and have not yet been found and returned.  But there is an ongoing effort to reduce that number.
