2023 Stanford MVB recap - Mick - 05-26-2023

Stanford's men's volleyball team came a long way over the course of the 2022/23 season.  They won their first six matches, including two against ranked opponents, then proceeded to lose five in a row at one point, then the final two regular season matches to finish 13-12 during the year. They won their first two matches in MPSF post-season play, beating #12 USC and #6 BYU, both at Stanford. They lost the MPSF final to UCLA, but unlike their prior matches during the season, all three games were very close, losing 22-25, 21-25, and 23-25. Five weeks earlier, Stanford lost their first UCLA match 12-25, 12-25 and 12-25, probably the worst Stanford loss in many years.

AVCA All-American honors went to libero Justin Lui (HM) and Will Rottman (2nd team), the 75th and 76th MVB All-Americans in Stanford's storied MVB history.

Eight members of Stanford's team earned All-Academic honors, including four-time honoree Justin Lui (management science and engineering BA & MA), three-time selections seniors Nathaniel Gates (economics), Kevin Lamp (architecture), Nathan Lietzke (biology) and Will Rottman (real estate development in engineering). Repeat honorees include redshirt junior Ethan Hill (management science and engineering) and juniors Aidan Peters (economics) and Luke Turner (management science and engineering).

Stanford and Pepperdine led the conference in total selections, followed by Concordia (5), Grand Canyon (5) and USC (5). To be eligible, students must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically and have spent at least one academic year at their institution.

Off The Block named frosh Theo Snoey to their 2023 All-Freshman team.
