Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Ole Miss won 72-68.

Or, as the announcer said, (approximately), "Ole Miss wins by 7, 72-68, a 5-point victory".
If I were an announcer, I'm sure I'd flubb it worse than that.
Close does count in defensive guarding. No one playing 12 feet off Stanford's 3-pt shooters in that last 30 seconds.

Still it was a good game. With 10 to go I thought a loss by 15 or more

Yes, some good things going on when you claw back to cut the lead to two with a minute or so left.
But it’s hard for me to see the season’s start as anything other than disappointing.

For the first time this season Harrison Ingram showed out excellently, providing a satisfactory answer for Amaree Abram. Spencer Jones did well in support.
However, we also needed answers for Brakefield and McKinnis and ended up ever so slightly outgunned.

Great game for Ingram, but pretty clear that Ole Miss was the better team
"Pretty clear that X was the better team" is sadly going to be a theme this year. Yet another season of Mediocrity At Maples .
Note to Muir - if you're not already talking to Maddog, you're doing it wrong

Yep, so far it has all the ear markings of a typically mediocre season.
We may have to settle for small victories.

Only victory at this point might be a new head coach

Here are Ole Miss' top 9 players by minutes played against us (minimum 7 minutes):
- Jaemyn Brakefield, Jr, a transfer from Duke who was a consensus high 4* top-50 recruit
- Myles Burns, 5th, a grad transfer from NAIA Loyola New Orleans who was 4x All-American and 3x All-conference (aka maybe the best player in all of NAIA)
- Jayveous McKinnis, 5th, a grad transfer from Jackson State who was 3x SWAC DPOY
- Amaree Abram, Fr, a consensus 4* top-100 recruit
- Matthew Murrell, Jr, a consensus high 4* top-50 recruit
- TJ Caldwell, Fr, a 4* recruit by On3, 247, and ESPN (Rivals didn't rate him because he took a post-grad year)
- James White, So, a 3* recruit
- Robert Allen, 5th, a transfer from Samford who averaged 14ppg/7rpg and was top 5 in SoCon in rebounds & blocks.
- Tye Fagan, 5th, a transfer from Georgia who started there, averaged 9ppg/4rpg, and led the team in FG%. This guy is playing 8 mpg right now.
Compare this to Harrison, Isa, and our army of 3*s and
Ole Miss has CLEARLY better talent. It's not even close.
Many of the good teams we play have been - and will be - way more talented. They all have rosters that look like this. "We just need to get old." Well, we are, and we're still not talented. So long, final excuse!
