I should call my mother - yvonne - 11-14-2011

I need to call my mother, who worked at barely over minimum wage as a seamstress/sewing machine operator, and let her know how incredibly rich we were, and how I achieved my education by way of our vast wealth. I also should thank the daddy that I never knew for spoiling me so much and exposing me to all those wonderful connections of his.

This must be true because all those smart people at Cal say it is.

I don't know if anyone else caught what may have been the most impressive stat on College GameDay (assuming I heard it right, which I think I did): 1 out of every 5 Stanford admits is the first in their family to attend college!  Doesn't quite fit the "silver spoon" stereotype, does it?

With the subject line, I thought this was going to be a Mike McQueary thread.

That is what they said.  And three cheers to the University official that provided that little factoid to ESPN.  While losing the game was a sad event, if the College GameDay experience helps one possible applicant realize that Stanford might actually be the best value for them BECAUSE they are not from a "silver spoon" family then it was a great event.

I have always laughed when those Frat guys at UC..B stand on the balconies of the Greek houses post-game and "quote" the full tuition rate at Stanford, presumably in some sad attempt to soothe their pain after a C.a.l loss.  Either they are from "Silver Spoon" families and have no idea what most Stanford student pay OR they never actually thought that maybe, just maybe, the list price could be discounted quite dramatically.

And we don't even need to discuss out of state tuition, or likely tuition increases over 4 years at C.a.l, the possibility of needing to pay for 5 years at C.a.l because of an inability to gain access to required classes, or the limited number of quality on-campus student employment options at Berkeley.
