The official tally of awful missed calls... - OutsiderFan - 11-12-2011

1. Taking interception from Stanford

Re: The official tally of awful missed calls... - OutsiderFan - 11-12-2011

2. Flagrant hold on MT3 on 2nd and 1

I have to confess that if I were the head ref in this game, the fix would be in for us.  I would cheat the ducks like the sacramento kings in 2002

3. Tarpley flagrantly held by Oregon's #79 (who holds all the time) on 4th and 7 DAT TD

That's fine, but.... - JohnR34231 - 11-12-2011

......I hope no one is blaming this loss on the officials.

I'm not saying Oregon won because of officiating.  But it is very difficult to beat them when they are as good as they are, allowed to hold so much, and the officials take interceptions away.

True, JPR, but if that interception early in the game hadn't been taken away, and we had scored first, I think the game could have gone differently. Won't say would have, but could have...

Are you talking about the interception where the Oregon QB was ruled "in the grasp" and the pass was disallowed?  From my perspective in the stands the official made the correct call.  My immediate thought when the ball was let fly was that surely the pass would not be allowed and I was relieved when the official immediately signaled the QB was down.  Of course, like everyone else, once I realized the ball was intercepted I would have been glad for a different ruling.

The important point - From my perspective the official made the right call and made it before the interception.  Did the TV view show something different?

Isn't that a question of whether or not the refs blew the play dead before the throw?  I didn't hear a whistle from the stands, but hope the refs were at least competent enough to know when they blew their own whistles!  Obviously, the replay booth wouldn't be able to overrule that.

Thought the worst noncall was on that first long LaMike run (the one for 58 yards)--take a look at what the center's doing to the nose tackle: practically yanking him out of the way by his facemask.

Edit: actually, looks like there are two holds in that play--Tarpley beats his guy too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlV_nS4Tdjo&feature=player_embedded

The block on Masifilo looked OK to me, but wow, Tarpley sure was held.

It's just sad that they weren't called for holding once in the game.  Tarpley was held on both the long James TD and the DAT 4 & 7 TD.  And MT3 was held (tackled is more accurate) on the 2 and 1 pass to DAT on the drive after the pick.  The play went for no yards, but it should have been 2nd and 11, not 3rd and 1.  Those are the only ones I have bothered to find.  I'm sure there were plenty more.

Not that it was going to help, but I tried to warn about Oregon holding before the game!

Now watch the hold on Tarpley on the DAT TD on 4th and 7.

Looks to me like the center's hand is yanking his face mask. Could be wrong, of course.
