Don't recall if this has been recently discussed. ;)

I'm not sure which is more damning: that Taitz left, or that he left to go to Loyola Freaking Marymount (ostensibly for PT) without his degree.

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - Phogge - 04-19-2022

Maybe he wants to become a Jesuit.

It's kind of crazy to me. He's obviously never going to sniff an NBA floor (as a player, at least), so he foregoes the Stanford degree for what, more playing time? Bizarre.

Maybe Noah just dislikes Haase as much as most of us here do.

Or maybe he just dislikes Stanford? Strangely enough, there are people who do not enjoy Stanford, for many and various reasons. Some of those people stay and get the degree (while hating every minute) because of the doors it opens, some don't. I have no idea to what extent that applies applies to Taitz, but that would make leaving without a degree less inexplicable.

Or maybe he wants to play.  Not like he got a ton of minutes.

Not really.  If he loves hoops, he wants to play.

True, that makes sense. However, as others have pointed out, he isn't a "pro" prospect. He isn't going to play much (if at all) after college. It probably would make sense to decide whether continuing to play more minutes of basketball for two or three years is "better" than getting a Stanford degree. Either choice is possible, but IMHO you only go with the basketball choice if you aren't otherwise enthused with your Stanford "experience". That's me, and I never had such a choice to make, so YMMV.

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - Phogge - 04-20-2022

Well Holy Cow can you imagine that some other colleges offer a great experience? How can that possibly be?

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - crackpot - 04-20-2022

Stan Johnson is doing an admirable job there. Perhaps Stanford should trade him for Haase.

LMU was 11-18 last season.

 Indeed. 3-12 in conference.

I'm not sure what the rules are these days but in the past you could start your academic career at Stanford, transfer and record credits elsewhere, then return and receive your degree, as long as you recorded a minimum of 90 units at Stanford itself. That's what Tim Carey did, transferring to Hawaii to get on the field but eventually getting his degree from Stanford. A freshman (non-athlete) dorm mate of mine did the same thing, transferred to a state school after freshman year after having his financial aid reduced but returned for a final year and graduated with a Stanford degree. A good friend of mine couldn't get on the field at Stanford as a walk-on, transferred to a 1-AA (now FCS) school and played for one year, then came back for senior year and graduated. Loved Stanford but had a real itch to actually play college football instead of being a tackling dummy, as he put it. If you're putting 20-40 hours into your sport per week without getting much playing time I understand the desire to play somewhere else, even if the rest of your Stanford experience is wonderful. So I don't assume that athlete transfers such as Taitz are necessarily punting on a Stanford degree, or that they are dissatisfied with the the school as a whole, in fact I assume that the decision is driven by athletics, and that after having accumulated several years of credit here they plan to return at some point and receive their diploma.

I don't think assuming this about Taitz, who immediately listed his Twitter status as "Free Agent" right after entering the portal, is a sound assumption.

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - footandballtorture - 04-20-2022

Lol I was just sent this thread by a friend since I’m good friends with Noah.

It was a combination of factors, being dissatisfied with the social environment of Stanford was one, but the primary issue was he felt that he didn’t get enough playing time to show his potential— and that when he did show it, there was no reward in terms of playing time for that.

He loves basketball more than anything— which is why he was willing to sacrifice the degree for a place where he could get more playing experience.

Hope this helps settle all the speculation!

Thanks for the info.  Please wish Noah a great experience at LMU with lots of playing time!
Cheers,
Pete F.

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - Phogge - 04-20-2022

AKA the friend lists "social environment" as one of the reasons. How much time is there for socializing at Stanford? Or is the "nose to the grindstone" a myth?

RE: MBB Taitz to LMU - needle - 04-20-2022

Best of luck to Noah!

I'm pretty confident he won't have any regrets.
