That is right between two scheduled team events. If a player were to participate in both of those and the ANWA, they would play 10 competitive rounds in 12 days. I can't imagine that we will be putting most of our A team out there at either one.

That is also the same weekend as the Chevron Championship (formerly the Dinah Shore), an LPGA major. Stanford players have also been invited to play there in the past. Some of those 6 Stanford invitees may have to choose between Augusta and the LPGA event.

What an embarrassment of riches! 10% of the field!

I expect we will see two or three of these six at each of the tournaments before and after the ANWA but they will also be an opportunity for other players to play. Could see any of Sadie Englemann, Rebecca Becht, Yu Wen Lu, and Calista Reyes in those lineups.

Invites for the LPGA major (now the Chevron Championship) but I would expect to see Zhang and possibly Heck get invitations. Apparently this will be the last year this event is played at Mission Hills. It is moving to Houston next year, course TBD

Now with NIL can a college golfer enter the Shore and accept prize money? What’s the difference between that and getting money from an endorsement?

No they cannot compete for prize money. That is the delineation between amateur and professional.

The difference is that prize money rewards you for your skill in the sport. Endorsements reward you for your "persona." Of course a big element of your persona is based on your skill, but there's a clear, hard line.

Correct, but a pro tournament could now compensate amateurs in the form of appearance money in the guise of NIL fees for promotional work.

Not likely for an LPGA event but if NIL had existed during Tiger's time at Stanford he would have surely gobbled up tons of NIL money as well as million dollar appearance fees for playing in selected PGA events.

Over at the UCLA BRO site, there are posts about their tennis players offering lessons to fans at $100+/hr. So it is OK to be a “teaching pro” but not a “playing pro”? Aren't both teaching and playing pros making money off their skills in their sport?

others giving lessons too

Quote:Dean and Traci Curtis could have been banished from their Ohio State University teams in the early 1990s had they done what their 19-year-old daughter pulled off one Saturday last month.

Emelie Curtis taught a lacrosse clinic for pay — with her status as an athlete at Duquesne University no secret, but instead the selling point for her customers. After two hours of coaching, she came away with about $475.

For decades, college athletes have been teaching at summer camps with their coaches. They get paid, they often get housing paid for as well, and they have time to a) practice, and b) take a class or two to help them take less of a load during seasons and still graduate "on time."

I taught swimming to 5 year-olds for a couple of bucks an hour while I was a high school swimmer.  Did that make me a pro?  Not at the time.

That sounds more like a thinly-veiled NIL rather than being professional.  Where they become a professional is when their room & board & education &....  Oh, we already went down that slippery slope.
