We're doomed - yvonne - 11-08-2011

I just received an email from the athletic department bearing the subject line "It's not big. It's (word of doom)."

Re: We're doomed - fullmetal - 11-08-2011

Yvonne, you're three for three on these heart-attack-inducing posts, y'know :p

It will be what it will be.  In Stanford I trust.

Re: We're doomed - yvonne - 11-08-2011

The test taking and the substance ingesting posts were meant to startle, kind of like an April Fools joke.

This one is serious. I'm scared! I was scared before Washington and USC, but this one is bigger; it's, um, of extremely large...

Re: We're doomed - fullmetal - 11-08-2011

I wasn't scared about UW or U$C (whoda thunk a team that had trouble with Minnesota would take Stanford to 3OT?)...but I am worried about Oregon's speed and Stanford's injury statuses.  And now you have me worried about superstitious uses of words banned by institutional history :p  Sigh.

Re: We're doomed - pefloresjr - 11-08-2011

I saw the subject and the poster and assumed that Wilner had picked Stanford to win.
I also know from experience to distrust Yvonne's inflammatory subject lines.  Fool me once, shame on you; fool me 18 times, shame on you for taking advantage of the disabled.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Visualizing success is an excellent method for dealing with butterflies. Build on the positive.

You gotta try to enjoy these moments, otherwise what is the point?

Just trying to help, Yvonne.

Re: We're doomed - Rando - 11-08-2011

I'm not nervous at all yet. Shoot, still hasn't even hit me yet.

I'll be feeling butterflies come Saturday morning.

At least we are not domed.... - jacketree - 11-08-2011

Enjoy the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge game for what it is.*  If Stanford loses, they don't foreclose all of our houses on Monday.

*I won't even get to see it live or on TV.  So y'all have that going for you.

Re: We're doomed - jacketree - 11-09-2011

Mrs. Jacketree is a saint, particularly for not kicking me to the curb after I told her I would schedule my midlife crisis for June 28, 2012 when the nest officially empties.  (I am taking suggestions btw.)  If she ever figures out the set-back thermostat, I am gone.

Saturday I'll get up, watch Gameday, wake the kid up, make his pregame breakfast bagel, drive to San Jose for the Bellarmine game (changed from Friday night), drive past Stanford Stadium, suit up, and head to the Sunset for his male modeling debut to raise money for whatever it is they raise money for.  We are sitting at a table with the family of a close friend of his. They have a daughter at Eugene and will probably send my son's friend there next year.  Rabid Duck fans without tickets. They have smart phones and I will know exactly what is going on based on the level of smug (or lack thereof) from that end of our table.  Silence will be golden.

I think you're safe--no human being has ever successfully figured out the thermostat.

Re: We're doomed - mark3k - 11-09-2011

at the risk of being criticized for being characterized as going OT again (or for advertising a commercial product; for the record, I've never been a commercial banker, nor has anyone in my family), this is supposed to be the "iPhone of thermostats" -- maybe this will help the Jacktrees!  ;D

Re: We're doomed - washingtonismoney - 11-09-2011

It's an interesting product, but I wonder if it's a few iterations away from success--the initial price point is pretty high and it's probably hard to convince people that the savings are worth it, at least at first.

Certainly looks cool.

Re: We're doomed - jacketree - 11-10-2011

Just to be clear, I am one of those inhuman beings who does know how to program the setback thermostat. I even managed to change be on PST at the right time so Mrs. Jacketree would have heat when she rose on Sunday.  I am merely alluding to the fact that my wife's love of heat at the appropriate time (and read into that what you will) is saving me from curb-kicking. Thankfully neither my son nor my daughter (or my wife) have any inclination to learn.  Although.....I program my mother-in-law's setback thermostat too, so I'd have somewhere to go.

Suggestions to get cool easy to use iPhones of thermostats that would enable Mrs. Jacketree to free me from the one useful function I perform to remain housed without additional rent or another mortgage, while well-meaning, are not particularly encouraged.  Also, if not for the co-habitable observations of Mrs. Jacketree, my impending midlife crisis will be much less fun.

(Who am I kidding, she has trouble with the phone she has.  I am in like Flynn!)

Alas, Wilner has picked us to win. We are doomed indeed...

Re: We're doomed - Farm93 - 11-11-2011

Nooo, nooo, noooooooooooo!

Why does Wilner finally decide to jump on the bandwagon this week.  Ugh!

BTW - I love all of these Kirk Herbstreit on the Oval reports.  Mem Chu, trees and cars.  In the latest angle I finally saw my first person of the day, clearly not a fan of College GameDay though.  People 1 - Squirrels 0.

Re: We're doomed - Spiny_Norman - 11-11-2011

another bad sign.  From the Merc - "Luck has shaved his beard for the Oregon game. He was clean-shaven walking off the field after practice Thursday."

There is still time to revise those Fear The Beard signs.

I'd go with good sign. Remember how much more kickass Harrison Ford was in the Fugitive post-beard?

Just like that.
