General WBB 21-22 Season - WBB fan - 12-01-2021

UC Davis just beat Oregon, 65-57. Admittedly, Oregon remains short-handed, but still. Davis may not be a total cupcake, not to be overlooked. And Pacific gave OSU a tough game, OSU winning 76-72. Another not real cupcake?

RE: WBB upcoming games - crackpot - 12-01-2021

Or the Pac-12 sucks.

I could be wrong.

RE: WBB upcoming games - chimera - 12-01-2021

There is no way Davis put more talent out there than Oregon even with Oregon missing players.  Davis lost to USF (San Francisco, not So Florida!) and St Mary's.  They are not a bad team.  The P-12 is not doing well at all.  Injuries are hurting a lot but teams are losing games they should win even with the injuries.  This is all going to hurt Stanford when those conference teams get players back and start to play better because if we lose to them it will look much worse than it actually is.  Solution = do not lose to them!!!!

RE: WBB upcoming games - Erika - 12-01-2021

Given we play Pacific on Dec 12th an interesting comment from The Boneyard (NWhoopfan):

"Oregon St. lucky to escape w/ a 76-72 win over Pacific. Not pretty. Prior to this game Pacific had done absolutely nothing to indicate they would be any kind of a threat in Corvallis. They have a guard named Anaya James who lit the Beavs up for 31 (was averaging 13 ppg for the season)."

RE: WBB upcoming games - chimera - 12-01-2021

If we struggle with Pacific it would mean they are playing out of their heads or just hitting a ton of threes while we play poorly.  Play well and no way they can hang.  Same for Davis.  Back in the day the conference was weaker and Stanford had a good shot to go undefeated for the conference season, my mantra was always play well and it will be a win, the other team can only win if Stanford plays poorly.  No longer true as the conference has gotten better, but it is still true for Davis and Pacific.  I hope I am not a jinx.  If we are worried about Davis and Pacific, the team has big problems or we fans are crazy.

RE: WBB upcoming games - mbdude - 12-02-2021

watched both OSU and Oregon games. Both teams had offensive struggles, poor shooting, very stagnant. Davis has 2 very talented players, and a freshman point guard that struggled against Oregon. Beavers last game VanOelhofen played shooting guard, not point.
If we don't take them lightly shoudnt have any trouble with UCD or Pacific

RE: WBB upcoming games - WBB fan - 12-02-2021

Agree with all above point, especially the "if we don't take them lightly" -- then should be no problem. But that Davis and Pacific defeated Oregon and OSU should alert our team that they need to be ready and go out and play hard.

I will always remember in december 1985 traveling to Kalamazoo, MI to watch our WBV team take on Pacific in the finals . . . and to my heartbreak lost.   I will never underestimate UoP!

RE: WBB upcoming games - BobK - 12-02-2021

John Dunning with the championship. Two Odens all tournament. Kim Stanford and Elaina for Pacific
Of course volleyball in This case

RE: WBB upcoming games - Hurlburt88 - 12-02-2021

Yes, 2 Odens--one of whom broke my heart that night.   and my friends Nancy Reno & Wendy Rush (Humphreys).   And Cheryl Miller playing on the USC team for 3rd place.

Watching Uconn/Notre Dame: Miles and Citron for ND are both REALLY good as freshman. As much as I love our freshman class, both would be impact players at Stanford and would have helped better our program. Dodson is as offensively challenged still as she was at Stanford. She seems more aggressive in looking for her shot though and is solid defensively.

RE: WBB upcoming games - Hoops9092 - 12-05-2021

Love the pace that Olivia Miles plays with. She's going to be a special point guard. Citron is a great, fluid shooter as a freshman as well. They also have a Mabrey and a Westbeld on the roster (younger sibs of prior ND players). Brunelle was a top recruit coming out of high school a few years back and she's a nice versatile post player. I like what this Notre Dame team is working with. They have top 10 potential in my opinion. Dodson still looks a step slow on the offensive end, but I know she's had some nice performances (against non-UCONN opponents) this season.

RE: WBB upcoming games - Card10Fan - 12-05-2021

Would also add Uconn does not look unbeatable. They need to score in transition and have struggled at times in the half court. Lots of turnovers and a reliance on Bueckers to do everything. Aside from South Carolina, seems pretty wide open once again with the top teams all able to beat up on each other on any given night.

RE: WBB upcoming games - Hoops9092 - 12-05-2021

Bueckers goes down with an injury with 38 seconds left and UConn up 18.

First thought is why the heck is she in the game when UConn is up this much with under a minute. In fact, it was up 22 a moment ago. She's now getting helped up off the floor. Terrible.

It's terrible. And their bench players are lucky to get a minute or two of PT.

I hope it's nothing horrible.

Looks like she hyper-extended her knee.  Here's the video:

Freak thing.  She could have done the same at practice.  Hope it’s nothing serious.

In a purely non-accountable answer, Geno replied to a question of why he had Bueckers on the floor in the last minute of a game with his team ahead by twenty points, with, "I don’t have an answer for why she was in the game." He went on to say that he liked his team better with her on the court.
I know that he is regarded as the coaching genius of women’s collegiate basketball, but the decision to keep his top star on the court in that situation was — well there is only one way to describe it — pretty stupid. The press won’t do it, but he ought to be skewed for that decision and his dismissive answer.

RE: WBB upcoming games - PVTree - 12-06-2021

I saw the press conference after the game and Geen-o said something like PB is a "pain in the backside when she's on the bench, always complaining that she should be on the court." She hates not being in the game and that he doesn't like his team without PB on the court.

Did someone get the license plate on that bus?
