If the AD didn't want to spend $12+ million per year to make a big splash, then this seems like a good hire to me.
DeBoer's career has touched all of the regions UW normally tries to find talent and since he was in the Group of 5 he likely didn't demand too much money.
Unlike USC, UW doesn't really have attendance or local apathy issues, so there was no incentive to desperately swing for the fences. USC right now has to battle for media attention against the Rams, the Chargers, the Raiders, the Dodgers, the Clippers, the Lakers, and even UCLA so a boring Group of 5 type hire was not going to be sufficient for them.

Jake Haener has entered the portal. Looks like he is aiming to rejoin his coach at the UW, where Haener started his career.

Haener was the star of the best game I saw all season. He won't have the same quality of receivers that he had at Fresno unless some transfer with him.
