Latest show is up with a look at Saturday's result in Corvallis. Postgame from David Shaw & Houston Heimuli. Plus:
- two Stanford QBs make their debuts (one in a particularly surprising spot)...we go through the day for the Cardinal signal-callers
- what happens when Stanford tries to play field position & defense? It tends to get one, but not the other. We go inside the numbers
- why 2nd down was perhaps the crucial down
- inside the Card's most productive rushing day in over a month
Download & listen. Thank you as always for checking out the show!

It’s relative to all the other games this year.

Troy, always love your depth and insights, but the "missed tackles" are far less due to the TreeFense being banged up than it is to just poor coaching. It's not a new issue in the last couple games. It's been an issue all season, and arguably an issue in prior seasons too.
This is first and foremost a coaching issue, not a player issue.

Clardy will NEVER, EVER touch the "coaching" issue. Too hot to handle. Just not in him. At least he admits it

Tackling is desire and technique. Stanford is soft and takes the easy way out often (arm tackling). Technique is on the coaches.
Stanford is being pulverized by opponents who are stronger and better coached.
There was a post in some thread about “some” FCS teams capable of beating Stanford. I would change it to “many.”

Bang-on, especially at this point in the season. I've scene a lot great football played by Stanford in my time. I've also scene more than my share of the other kind. At this moment, what I'm witnessing is as bad as anything I ever saw in the latter category. It is jaw-dropping poor.

Harbaugh took the players he inherited from buddy/walt and made them better players both individually and collectively; add in the players his was able to bring in both due his recruiting efforts and what Stanford has to offer and then just not the team starting to win, but the game became fun to watch and then became exciting to watch. Denny Green did the same in the same amount of time (3 years and a bowl game). Green had a very strong group of assistant coaches from the start including Willie Shaw. A turn around is possible if there is the will to do so.

I'd say it's 80% a talent issue. I don't care who would be coaching this group, there's really no one who jumps out as an impact player, especially on the front seven. Booker, the best of the DL, is a little above average. There's no force among the LBs, except for an occasional play by #90.
#17 can play, but his stock has fallen dramatically since his high rating early in the year.
Anderson had some good defenses when he had some players. This is the weakest collection of defensive players that I've seen at Stanford in years.

I think he took on wthe HEAD COACH issue, but I can see where that could be extended to the rest of the staff. However, calling out poor coaching is not the same as "fire the coach." I think it's entirely appropriate to call out evidence of poor coaching. Troy has no problem calling out clock management issues which are clearly coaching issues.

Winflop beat me to it....second-guessing coaching decisions is not the same as calling for a coach to be fired.
I've done the former, on several occasions. Will not do the latter.

And whose fault is it that there is a talent issue????

For once :) :) :)
I would love for you or one the other members of the media to ask Shaw "What are you going to do differently to fix this/get the program back on an upward trend?" This is not a one-year anomaly, it's a multi-year downward trend.
