WBB: Nat Championship Video - 81alum - 11-02-2021

Highlights from the whole season.  I thought it was pretty well done.  The problem with all of these is that by not showing the score or the opponents' big plays, it takes some of the drama out of what we actually experienced while watching.  But for the South Carolina and Arizona final four matches, they do show the dramatic finishes.  Got misty eyed all over again watching.  Also reminded me how much has to go your way to win it all--how easily we could have lost to Louisville, to South Carolina, or to Arizona.   Except we didn't ;)

I completely agree with the comments -- when they do these things, I always wish a score would be shown so that the plays are seen in context. But it's great to see the highlights. As for the last two games, I have both of them saved on my DVR and have rewatched the last five minutes of each several times. I just wish I'd saved the 2nd half of the Louisville game!

Great memories from a memorable and most unusual season!
The fan experience, or lack thereof, was something that I hope is never repeated. Still, the NCAA, for all its shortcomings, did put on a great set of finals. Great in the sense of providing a safe, live tournament for everyone who dared to go. It was strange to walk into the Alamo Dome in San Antonio with everyone having to get their temperature taken. Everyone was required to wear masks covering their noses, and keeping their mask on throughout the entire game and postgame celebrations. Each fan base was limited to 1200 attendees, with small clusters of seating with everyone socially distanced.
Ushers assigned to each section carrying placards reminded people to wear masks at all times (I didn’t see a single incident of non-cooperation!). It was clear that everyone in the Dome had the same goal, to root for their team until the final buzzer—and respect everyone’s right to enjoy the game safely! Cardboard cutouts of fans, celebrities, former players, and current players adorned every seat that wasn’t occupied. Yes, it was surreal, and it worked!
San Antonio cooperated as well. The hotels required masks and I didn’t see one instance of letdown. We felt safe walking to the Arena, around the city, on the River Walk, and in socially-distanced restaurants.
After the game, our players stood at the edge of the court waving and communicating with family members, tears of joy were everywhere. "Champs" t-shirts were made available to our small fan base, and, for those of us who had been in San Antonio for the 2010 Tourney, we felt a great sense of redemption as we exchanged muted effervescent smiles through our collective masked faces.
Now it’s time to cheer on our current team for its run at the national title! I hope that you can be there with us—watching our unselfish, we’ll-disciplined team play is such a joy! And remember, you just have to yell harder with those pesky masks on!
My motto for this year, "Get a Booster, and be a Booster!"

It's great looking back but it's time to look ahead. We are only days away from a big early season test. Stanford vs. Texas is a week from Sunday. The guards will get a good gauge of readiness. Texas' coach is Vic Schaefer who loves to pressure the ball.

True, true, but we do have Clarke on Saturday, an online talk with Tara on Monday, and Morgan State on Thursday, and I hope we will glean more information about how the team is developing from those events prior to Texas.  Texas, however, will be the first game when we truly see Tara's thinking on point guard, I suspect.  This early in the season the other four starters from last year will certainly be starting again regardless of how others develop, but Texas will not be an experiment the way the Morgan State and Clarke could be.  Tara will put the best point guard on the court.  Seeing who she chooses, and seeing who she rotates into the game when it is in doubt, will tell us volumes about the direction this season may go.  If one of the freshmen get playing time against Texas while the game is competitive (could be the whole game, but we don't know how it will go) that I would say bodes well.  If Agnes gets significant playing time against Texas, that bodes well.  What will the bigs rotation look like?  It will be fascinating to see.
