OL - old spanish trail - 09-28-2021

Question: Dalman is a big loss at center, and while Drake has been celebrated for his strength, I haven't seen it. But, the rest of the OL should be better. They are more experienced and healthy, and should be stronger after another year of conditioning. They aren't able to get any push, and aren't effective on runs to the outside either. McKee has helped them out in passing situations but they are not so good there either. Have the "new techniques" neutered them; do they need more time to adjust to the newness, etc? Any ex OL have any thoughts?

Just want to say that Rouse is playing at an all-conference level or at least close to it.

Rouse is not playing that well.

Hinton has been, to be charitable, not great. The clear weak link.

I also think we have multiple other factors in play:
1. Everyone is a true junior or younger. Most college OL are seniors or 5th years. Old man strength is a thing in the trenches.
2. New OL coach this year. Transitions seem to generally be pretty rough from one to the next.

Based on my experience watching Stanford Football under David Shaw, it seems the OL coach is the most important coach in the program.

If I were Shaw, I'd hire the best OL coach I can find and make him the highest paid OL coach in College Football if he commits to my program for the long term.

Hinton has had a holding penalty in at least three of the four games if not all four.

And, he's easily deaked in pass blocking. Have to admit, I'm surprised. Did he put on crummy weight? I don't recall seeing him so often displaced last year. Of course, he was mostly in on run plays, and he continues to be the most stout there. Sometimes, he winds up at the second level looking like he doesn't know what to do next. The OL play is a mystery.
