possible preview of attending football games this fall

we went to a concert at Frost Amphitheater last night and I would guess that this might be what going to football games will be like this fall if conditions do not change much in the next few weeks

Absolutely true for WVB. Which in my opinion is great.

Absolute discrimination against those who don’t own a smart phone. Have no problem with the other rules.

similar rules at Oregon with the addition of all over age 5 have to wear a mask

from my discussion with the ticket office if you complain/ask enough they will get you a ticket that is not on your phone.

The older demographics (like me) are not of as much interest to them so they appear willing to accommodate (at least this year) requests for other forms of tickets....

Quote:As far as that goes, teams say they have ways around the my-dad-doesn't-have-a-smartphone problem, although they don't get specific about what those ways are.

"The first thing you ask someone is, 'Does someone in your group have a smartphone?' And oftentimes the answer is yes," said Dan August, the Rams' vice president for ticketing and strategy. "A handful of people have called and said, 'I bought one ticket, and I don't have a smartphone.' We'll work with that person on an individual ticket to find a solution that will work for them. But it's not something we mass-promote, because we try to help people find the solutions for themselves."

IMO they want the personal info for as many people as possible using a ticket to market to them/sell them stuff/sell your info to others, all the other given reasons are not the real drivers for the change.

Quote:But sports industry watchers say those are rationalisations by franchises that, more than anything, want ticket buyers' personal data and contact info to use to sell more stuff.

"In terms of business partners, especially advertisers, sponsors, and others, including merchandisers and concessionaires, teams and leagues want to facilitate more transactions," said David Carter, a sports industry consultant and USC adjunct professor of sports business.

"And they believe they can do that when harvesting more accurate data that they can then use to up-sell fans on other products, while at the same time providing critical insight to business partners so that they can do the same."

Carter added: "It's important to note that older fans may not be as monetisable as younger ones, so any challenges associated with older fan groups' willingness to adapt to and adopt technology may be more than made up for by greater increases in fan engagement among younger audiences."

agreed 100%.  i don't have a smartphone because i don't want to pay for internet service twice.
i was thinking of flying to Stanford in late september to see the UCLA game, but now i'm having second thoughts.

I wonder if an iPad or equivalent would work if you have one, just anything that you can download the Stanford app onto. Just don't know if you need a "wallet" app too.
Or you could request a paper ticket from the ticket office

As an explanation I have dealt with technology my entire life. At one time it was B&W negative, then color reversal stocks leading to 35mm negative color motion picture film. Also from assignment desks having us call in every two hours and on production sets communicating often on HT’s. Then gigantic pagers with a range of 50 miles to smaller pagers clipped on your belt and finally to generations of cell phones. I now watch friends, my grown sons and my spouse spend tons of time looking at a small screen. I just don’t want to be bothered anymore. I use a flip to make and receive PHONE calls. If I can’t enter an event then I don’t need to go.

A tablet should work. I don't know Apple products, but certainly with Android you can run the same apps on phone or tablet.

A smartphone with only wifi and no data plan, or even no phone service at all would work too. Basically you'd use it like a small tablet.

I was thinking the same thing, just a 7-generations-too-old worthless phone would probably be fine. Would fit better in a pocket :)

Oregon and Oregon State are going to move this to the next level.

Good for them.   For those that are not vaccinated and plan to attend Pac-12 games, it might be best to get that first dose ASAP.

should work as long as the ticket app supports the older version of the phone OS...

I think you can still get an iPod that can run iOS but only runs on wifi.

BC

That being said, I don’t think TC is looking for a technological solution.

I was responding more to newguy not wanting to pay for mobile internet service.

Chase Center is encouraging ticket holders to load their vaccination information to the free CLEAR app to help streamline the entry process. I assume the people with the app will get quick entry and the others will have to stand in a slower line.

you can also get a QR code and save it to your phone from the state of CA to show you are vaccinated here

That's the route I took.  Very easy.

i was going to post, who cares, if you're posting here, you likely have at least a computer; so just print out the code. but i checked and indeed see the instruction, "do not print."

so, i see what you mean!

i wonder what salable info they get from an electronic ticket that they didn't already have from our account. is stanford actually tracking our phones beyond our use of ticketing, more than google already was?

i certainly was taken aback to notice that, after asking a guy about his expertise at appraising specialty and antique watches (2 years ago when we still had face-to-face gatherings with non-family) i immediately got several electronic ads for watches. i was only a little amused. then i turned siri off.

if you previously bought more than one ticket they only had your info.  If you buy more than one ticket, unless you all enter together, they will have info on each ticket user as you have to register to allow easy ticket transfer.  If you bring different people to some games, unless you all enter together, they will have info on those people too as they will also have to register for easy ticket transfer.

I buy a pair of tickets and even though we usually enter and exit together sometimes we do not so my second person had to create an account and download the app and then "unsubscribe" from Stanford marketing emails, if they share the info with others (and I don't know if they do) then those entities can "market" to her as well.

For anyone who does register they have at least your name, email, and phone number.  The email and phone number need to work to transfer the tix, I guess you could use disposable info for these as well as a fake name but most won't want to do that.  They will also know which games you go to, if you go in and out at halftime (assuming they continue to allow in and out privileges and the scanners are working) and may be able to link you to buying concessions if that gets tied into the app so then they know what you like to eat and drink and can use that to market to you.  It goes on and on.....
