Cardinal Women at Carnoustie -
winflop - 08-18-2021
The Women's (British) Open starts tomorrow. Four current and former Cardinal are in the field:
- Albane Valenzuela, current top 32 in Race to CME Globe (LPGA version of the FedEx Cup)
- Andrea Lee, top 10 finisher at last years Women's Open
- Aline Krauter, 2020 R&A Women's Amateur champion
- Rose Zhang, 2020 US Women's Amateur champion
Carnoustie, aka Car-nasty, is the hardest golf course I have ever played.

agreed about Carnoustie, especially when the wind blows, but it is still a fun round. Hogan's Alley and South America are 2 great holes among many on the course.

Hmm, she was listed as having qualified based on CME standing. Must have been an error

Don't get me wrong it's a great course, just really really hard. I donated a Stanford GC bag tag to the halfway house which has an amazing collection of them on the walls when I played it many years ago.
Still a few players out on the course, but the Cardinal contingent is done for Round 1 and played well overall:
Andrea Lee -4 T4
Albane Valenzuela -2 T13
Rose Zhang E T44
Aline Krauter +2 T94

Best course I played is the 18 holer on the Marine Base Perris Island. Mostly because you you might just have to run away from a gator. Makes the phrase “penalty area” potentially deadly.

Skin So Soft doesn't repel gators too?

Didn’t attract any super models on the SI Swimsuit video either.

Lee and Valenzuela were the only two to make the cut. Zhang was on the number through 16 on Friday but bogeyed 17 and missed by one. Her disappointment after missing a birdie putt on 18 was clearly visible.
Lee blew up on Saturday with an 80 and is way out of contention at +7
Valenzuela is at E, 9 shots off the lead. Won't win but with a good score tomorrow could make top 25

Valenzuela (70) and Lee (69) both played well on Sunday
Valenzuela -2 T29
Lee +4 T55
