What coach designed the shotgun, against what team and who were his three rotating quarterbacks? What coach devised a way to beat the system and caused the team using it to dump it?

Brodie, Waters, and Kilmer. Coach was Red Hickey. I went to high school with Hickey’s son. brobdingnagian guy. Elite-level discus thrower. Useless football player.

Still looking for the coach who stopped the Shotgun cold.
Waters was one of three teammates to die of ALS. Who were the other two?

I suppose George Halas stopped the shotgun but defense was the bigger problem on the season

Halas had little control of the Bears defense. Somebody else did.

Yes on Hickey. Yes on the three Niners QB's.
The coach who stopped the Shotgun was George Allen, in charge of the Bears defense.
Waters, Gary Lewis and Matt Hazeltine all passed from ALS. There was talk at the time that a coincidence of three deaths of teammates from ALS was an impossibility.
