WBB: Stanford 63 Oregon 61 - 81alum - 02-14-2021

Preview:

Our last game against Oregon, in Santa Cruz, was fairly close, and this time we meet them on their home court.

https://thecardboard.org/board/showthread.php?tid=21355&highlight=wbb

In that game we were behind at the half, had an outpouring of points in the 3rd for a 17 point lead, and almost choked it away in the fourth.  Lexie could not play.  Oregon's zone really hampered Belibi, who had been on fire coming into that game.

Since that last meeting Oregon is 4-2 with 5 postponed games.  The losses were to Arizona twice, each decisively.  The wins have not always been impressive, narrowly beating UC Davis, but they did beat WSU by 8.

Graves has complained after games and clearly is trying to stoke a fire, but his all-star cast has not been producing what he expected.

Oregon is offensively balanced between Nyara Sabally, Erin Boley, and Te-Hina Pao Pao all in double digits.  Sabally is shooting 56%, mostly from inside, Boley is shooting 42%, mostly from outside, and they have a bevy of good three point shooters like transfer Mikesell lurking around the perimeter.

Sedona Prince is back and playing, and was their #2 scorer against Arizona last time out--so that is a new wrinkle for us to handle.  It would be very good if Prechtel were able to go.

The game is televised nationally but at a poor time--I won't be home from work in time to see the first half.  ESPN does makes its games available on replay, at least.

What does everyone think about Fran Belibi's new hair style.  Big change.  I'll bet she's carrying 5 less pounds up and down the court.

I think it looks great.  Maybe with the new style she can do some 360 spin dunks in the future!  Haley Jones' hair looks like a lot to tow around but it doesn't seem to slow her down.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Had Fran started, I probably wouldn't have thought a ton about it, but totally not expecting her to play in the second half after not playing in the first half, I totally thought that it was Fingall for a second.

Game moved to 6 pm, and they don't know whether it is on ESPN or ESPN2, so, uh, set your DVRs for both?

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Oregon Mon 4pm ESPN2 - ca245 - 02-15-2021

Does anyone have definitive information on the game time? As of 7:30 AM PT, ESPN website and Comcast programming guide both show the game to be at 4 PM PT on ESPN2, but the Stanford Athletics shows the game at 6:00 PM PT.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Oregon Mon 4pm ESPN2 - petersalas - 02-15-2021

The game was moved to 6:00. The channel wasn’t determined, however now ESPN app has it as 6:00PT on ESPN2

Good article on Sedona Prince, “How Oregon's Sedona Prince rebounded and became a crusader for NCAA change,” that is damning about Univ. of Texas.

I recall Jamie Carey being cleared to play by UT’s medical staff after Stanford’s medical staff said her concussions were too much to let her play. Sedona’s experience was horrible.

CONFIRMED: 6 PM on ESPN

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Oregon Mon 4pm ESPN2 - PVTree - 02-15-2021

We dropped in the poll to 6th as aTm leap-frogged us.

We need to win at Oregon to stay top-6.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Oregon Mon 6pm ESPN [note time and network change] - CompSci87 - 02-15-2021

The Comcast/Xfinity program guide doesn't have the updated channel and time yet. Just to be sure, I set up a "record by channel" for the correct time and channel: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-set-a-manual-recording-for-a-channel

If I had told it to record the men's game that's currently shown in that slot, there's a possibility it would pick up the schedule update at the wrong moment and end up not recording the WBB game.

How many Top 9 wins does aTm have? Zero.

While in NET, Stanford moved back to #1.

Interesting to compare AP poll and NET.

I'm delighted by the change since it means I can now watch.

But why the heck would there be a schedule change on the day of a game?  This is chaotic and ridiculous.  When I turned on ESPN2 it said I was watching the Stanford Oregon WBB game, but they were playing some old documentary about Al Davis and the Raiders.

What the heck?

I think I am a fan of the NET!

But this is an injustice, to be sure, that A&M move past us despite our recent wins and despite A&M's obviously inferior strength of schedule.  That Colorado loss is truly the loss that keeps on losing.  Hopefully we will be inspired to take it out on Oregon.

Massey, by the way, has us at 1 and A&M at 11--not even the top 10.

Our SoS is 5 and theirs is 67.

That is weird, and it may be troubling.

What are the rules for the submitted roster?  What rules would permit Maya and Jenna to be on it while an injured player is not?  Or is this more than an injury?

I am probably panicking needlessly.
