WBB midseason awards - BostonCard - 01-27-2021

Michelle Smith gives her thoughts, not surprisingly a lot of Stanford players:
Haley Jones under consideration for player of the year
Cameron Brink under consideration for freshman of the year
Tara Vanderveer under consideration for coach of the year.

Anna Wilson needs to be heavily considered for defensive player of the year in the Pac-12. She held Aari McDonald to 12 points on 3-18 from the field and tonight Charlise Ledger-Walker only had 6 points on 2-5. Aari is one of the best players in the country and Charlise might just be the best freshman in the country averaging 20 points a game. Those are the top two scorers in the Pac-12 and she shut them down. Anna Wilson deserves the recognition.

I agree that Wilson is a great defender.  But it was team defense that shut Leger-Walker down.  Lexie was constantly leaving her player to stay in the paint and clog up any driving lanes.  Then she would race out to try and guard a three if the ball was passed to her player.

Agree on Anna for the top defensive player award. I still don't understand why she only played ten minutes against UCLA when Osborne went off for 24 against us. Was Anna hurt? Lacie had most of those minutes and while Lacie is a very good defender, she does not have the quickness to keep up with Osborne.
