OT: Firebaugh -

Don't even think there's a fast food joint on the I5 exit to Firebaugh, yet one of the best QBs in the NFL hails from there. Hard not to root for Josh Allen. Great story: "You bloom where you’re planted."

I thought that this thread might be a concatenation of Fire Harbaugh.

Yeah, I was expecting Michigan chatter.

I knew it would be, was surprised to discover otherwise.

Apparently many on the board either suffer from myopia or haven't driven I5 a multitude of times. . . .

Very dangerous stretch of highway through Firebaugh, just outside Fresno. I believe locals referred to it as "Blood Alley" or something like that. Fog was brutal. A neighbor of mine lost his wife in an accident there.

Highway 33. If it's foggy pull into a motel. January and February brutal.

Very sad. If it's not the fog, it's the wind and dust. Visibility to zero in an instant.

I hate taking the 5. I take the 101 if at all possible. I know it's longer. Nicer drive, less fog.

101 has much better food options! I mean besides Harris Ranch, which we've discussed in another thread, where else within a couple miles of I-5 can you find a quality meal between Pacheco Pass and Santa Clarita? (The comparable journey on 101 would be between Gilroy and Ventura, which means you pass through Salinas, SLO, Nipomo--that one's for BobK--and Santa Barbara.)

I drove 5 north from LA to the Bay Area once. It was desperately boring. (Also desperately lacking in rest stops when I needed one!)

I meant a rest room. Mine ended up being a tree.

I new exactly what you meant. An expert tip--exit the highway and head to the on-ramp. As most of the exits connect to an overpass, as you head down the on-ramp, pull off to the side, there you're pretty much shielded from view from at least the traffic going your direction. . . .

the locals just pull off on the shoulder and go in full view for enjoyment of the passers by and maybe with hope for an offer.............have done many a business trips into the valley traveling up and down I5, 99, 152 and 41/46..............just and every day occurrence.
