RE: Stanford Dream Player by Tara Vanderveer - Maple Leaf - 12-28-2020

I wonder if there was any reaction (in a fun way) by the two current assistants who also played for her at Stanford and were part of very successful teams.

Regardless an outstanding list of players/people and representatives for Stanford.

Yeah, the thought re: assistants crossed my mind.

Hard to argue Tara's list - and after all, it is her list!  but my first reaction:  Nneka was WAY too much of a star to be a "glue" player.  But then again, maybe that's part of what made Nneka so flipping tremendous.  [My all time glue player remains the way underappreciated Jillian Harmon].

With you on Harmon - remains my favorite Stanford player.  I even remember the UCLA coach calling Harmon Stanford's glue player

Lots of other candidates to be glue players:
Vannessa Nygard
Jamila Wideman
Nicole Powell
Ros Gold-Onwunde
Kiana Williams
Erica McCall
Amber Orrange
Kayla Pedersen
Susan King
Kelley Suminski

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, but all made their teammates better.

Depends on your definition of glue player.  Mine generally is:  does all the unsung things - plays sound defense, boxes out, gets the tough/critical rebound, makes the right pass, plays scrappily - very well.  A few on your list fit that definition, many others are very "sung" - though that doesn't preclude them from making "their teammates better."

Despite all the talent on this year's squad, Kiana Williams remains the most indispensable player on the roster (then Haley, then possibly Brink or Lexie).  She can drop 30 in a game, but also can get a decent shot off against anyone.  That just doesn't project "glue" to me.

(Indeed, Haley and Brink are too special to be glue players - Lexie might qualify).

Just one fan's take.

I can't believe no one has mentioned T'nae Thiel in this discussion.
