Divorce rates way up during the pandemic. We have a large matrimonial practice (actually an anti-matrimonial practice), and they've been crazy busy for months.

People are desperate for food. For some children, the only hot meal they get is at school. Most are not now at school.

Also, we are expecting an 8 - 10% decline in births next year. That could be 500,000 fewer kids being born next year in the US due to the effect of the pandemic and unemployment.

To me some of the most powerful photos to come out of Covid have been the lines at the food banks, such as this one in Texas:

Work slowed down for me for about a month, so my kid & I started volunteering at the San Francisco food bank. It feels like all-hands-on-deck.

The story seems to concentrate on young childless couples. Not sure if that was intentional or just a matter of being more photogenic. To the extent it's causing divorce before children, it could be seen as an up side. Children stress a marriage in normal times. If the couple can't work through intense times, better to get it over with before there are children to mess up.
