Gameballs - lex24 - 12-05-2020

1.  Shawvita.   Terrific game plan great balance also very nice job of clock  management both at the end of the first half and at the end of the game in the 4  minute drill. Somebody mentioned whether or not the coaching staff would have them ready for the game. They most certainly did.

2. Davis Mills.  That’s the best game I’ve seen a Stanford quarterback play in a long time. I don’t really care what his numbers were. He made big plays at big times in that game. He put a lot of throws downfield into very small windows the only place they could be caught. His ball placement was terrific. He made some plays out of the pocket. He showed today why he was so highly recruited and why he will be an NFL quarterback.

3. Offensive line.  Amazing how different an offense looks  when you have a very good offensive line. And Stanford show today that they do. They started putting it together in the second half of the Cal game and moved forward from there.

4. Pete Alomar.  His special teams have been terrific all year. Another punt inside the 5 yard line, blocked extra point, and they have been very good on kick off returns all year. The penalty on the one was the only negative.

5. Jones.  Yeah he had a fumble. First turnover all year I believe. But he really ran well today. Showed vision made some really nice cuts and his third down run which fell just short of the first down was a terrific cut. Peat was damn good as well. That’s a nice combo.  It was nice to see them together at times in the backfield in the gun.  I haven’t seen Stanford do that much since they did it with McCaffrey and Wright  in 2014. Its a formation I really like and hope they keep using.

Jones also had three catches for 28 yards.  I wasn't paying attention, so were any from the two RB formation?

I don’t think so.  BTW. Did Wedington get hurt?

RE: Gameballs - SamuelMcF - 12-05-2020

I think Wedington and Wilson both got hurt. OSB was also out for the game. I think Higgins may have gone off after the half too; not sure.

Higgins, Tremayne, and of course Fehoko made just enough plays to carry the load. John Humphreys was more heavily involved too.

Davis gets the game ball alone for his TD-saving tackle after the fumble. UW didn't convert the TD after DWP and Gabe Reid played well enough on their man to draw holds. That won the game.

I don't know how anyone can not recognize Booker and Robinson.

DWP played the best game I've ever seen him play.

Even Herron and Andres Fox made an impact as pass rushers.

Nobody on defense deserves recognition?

Hornibrook in second half. Bone crushing in relief of Miller.

I loved the physicality STM came in with today. He had a few massive hits and a TFL, I think. Gabe Reid got to split time at ILB and OLB today, and had some impact at OLB. That was nice to see. Robinson played what looked like one of his best games. Schaffer had his third sack in 4 games and another TFL. DWP stepped it up.

Recency bias though; after watching the second half from the defense, there wasn't much to recognize. The offense won the game.

Today was the offenses game. I  must’ve missed the impact as pass rushers because I saw a quarterback with a lot of time to throw and usually easy lanes to throw the football. Yeah there were times he had to move out of the pocket late. But they did not put much pressure on him. The defense played the run fairly well. They got torched against the pass. So I just felt today was a day for offense and special teams. Feel free to add I’m not suggesting by the way that this is the be-all end-all

Higgins had his best game. I remember he was shaking his hand after one play so maybe that was it. Yeah I wondered about Willson also because I didn’t see him much in the second half. Makes what Mills did  even more impressive frankly.

Recently  bias is a good point.  Schaffer - as a few mentioned  here last week - is really starting to show something. Good for him. Obviously they need help in the secondary big time. And they need to find a way to get more pressure on the quarterback. But coming into the game Washington’s quarterback had been sacked once. So obviously some credit goes to an opponent with a good offense of line

I also think these last two games have really shown what a blow it was for Stanford to have Mills not playing Oregon and not practice prior to the Colorado game due to a League screwup. They are a completely different offense with him on the field. And not surprisingly it took him a while to get going against Colorado. That’s the one they wish they could have back I suspect.
