Mills and Weddington are still TBD because of Covid protocols.
Per Shaw, Ricky Miezan is out and for an extended period of time. Lavani Damuni is expected back.
ILB Aeneas DiCosmo has been "banged up" but was able to practice yesterday.

Time to go to a 4/3 except Stanford doesn't have enough DL. Some really poor defensive recruiting in the past few years and having crystal players doesn't help.

Even if Mills plays, Buffs are still a good bet to beat a 7-point spread. And Dorell is 4-1 vs.Stanford.

Mills possibly a false positive?

Quote:Less than 48 hours before its home opener against Colorado, Stanford still doesn’t know if starting quarterback Davis Mills will be available.
Cardinal coach David Shaw said Thursday afternoon that there are no positive tests in the program. But Mills and three teammates, including starting receiver Connor Wedington, are still in isolation or quarantine because of COVID-19 testing results and contact tracing protocols.

Assuming Mills gets clearance to play, he hasn't practiced all week, right? I think today (Thursday) is the last day of full practice before a Saturday game.

It is just completely asinine to be playing college football games at this time.
1. We are in a raging pandemic getting way worse than ever before.
2. Playing college sports presents an air of normalcy and everything is fine that paints a false picture of reality and belies the seriousness of it.
3. The quarantining of players who test positive or have close contacts is going to vary wildly between teams.
4. False positive tests can incorrectly and unfairly keep players out, like this mind-blowing Davis Mills case.
5. When you have to cancel as many college games as they have, it's a pretty clear indication they shouldn't be playing.
The NFL has it right. If you decide to play, power through everything unless there is a major team outbreak. This one case leads to quarantines that make playing games impossible or with significantly limited personnel, is silly.

True. And if can play, he still starts for me.

Agree with much of this. But there is nothing wrong with giving people a “sense of normalcy”. It’s helpful from a mental health perspective. Lord knows we’ve had plenty of sh-t thrown at us. And it’s fleeting anyway; as soon as you turn the TV and see cardboard cut outs in the stands you lose the “normalcy”. The seriousness of this is beaten into us every day. Constantly. Understandably. But it’s exhausting. So a little “normalcy” for 3 1/2 hours is a good thing.
Mostly I think that once they decided to play – they simply play. That means you’re going to have to put up with some of the Covid cases and play with what you got. That’s essentially what the NFL has done.

It isn't perfect but I strongly believe that less of these kids are getting COVID in the disciplined environment of a college football season with frequent testing than they would if they weren't playing. That is my justification anyways for feeling that it is acceptable for the teams to be playing and following the cautious protocols that are leading to some cancellations.

I was surprised that the Pac12 decided to play games.
The Notre Dame rushing the field incident was, by itself, proof enough that college football should have been shut down this year. The fact that Kelly told the team, before the game, that the field would be rushed, is damning.

or that the games should have no fans in the stands.

And 0 positive player tests, post mosh pit (at least per squib on ESPN last night). That could change, of course, and any positive test may (or may not) be tied to the pit.
P.S. The "yellow jackets" trying to discourage fans from rushing the field reminded me of those poor guys at Cal back in the Willingham Era, when CalFan rushed the field after a loss to get some of the Stanford Fans celebrating down where the bad was playing in that end zone. The difference was, NDFan was happy/giddy, while CalFan had mayhem on his mind. Regardless, those "security" guys weren't paid nearly enough for that fiasco.

teejers1, the 7-day positivity rate at UND is up to 6.7% and heading in the wrong direction. And yes, 99.99% of the college students will not die, but those who are infected will inevitably contribute to the chain of transmission to the more vulnerable, who end up in the ICU and, if this doesn't turn around, wiill overload the local health system. This is happening--or about to happen in the next couple of months--all over the country.
Having said that, I'm still of the opinion that college sports should be played with current precautions for players and team staff, but with only family members in the stands.
