An estimate that 30-40% of the population in the larger cities has caught the virus, yet there are only 600 known deaths. The article says it is a mystery. I think not. Only 2.4% of the Kenyan population is over 65. In the USA, its 16%. As I've mentioned before, it is well known that the incidence of chronic inflammatory disease in African countries is much less than it is here, presumably due to dietary and sterility of environment issues. Less refined carbohydrate, exposure to a wider biome in Africa. If the baseline is an older population of people with diseases of inflammation, the mortality rate will be much higher.

For African countries, the best strategy is likely herd immunity. The expense and effort of a vaccine, coupled with the diversion of resources in poor countries, would be more harmful. If Kenya went with herd immunity, there would likely be fewer than 3000 deaths. Better to put the money into malaria and gastroenteritis control, much more deadly diseases on the continent.
