The NCAA Brings Down The Hammer With Great Force -
washingtonismoney - 06-09-2010
Two-year bowl ban, twenty+ scholarships lost, victories vacated, various recruiting penalties for a certain school we\'ve all been anticipating a certain comeuppance for. (From the LA Times)

Only two years? Â Psh. Â And victories vacated sound pretty hollow after the fact. Â Were the years in the desert suddenly less parching?
But kudos for action actually being taken...

I picture this message being delivered to USC by a Jules Winnfield look-alike.
"And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the NCAA when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Close your eyes and listen for that imaginary go be.ar.s cheer in Pasadena.
Did you hear it?
If this ruling comes with losses C.a.l could be informed that they were outright Pac-10 champs that one year.
Not only did Texas steal their invite with a lame PR push. Now it will be clear that USC stole that Rose Bowl trip too. Or maybe they stole a BCS championship invite.
That\'s tragic. ;)
MSNBC says 30 scholarships -
Extra Point - 06-10-2010
"While the bowl ban is the most damaging to new coach Lane Kiffin, USC also will lose 30 scholarships over a three-year period, 10 annually from 2011-13"
If this is true, it is very significant!!!

I don\'t think this is going to have a crazy effect on SC, personally. Â It\'s only going to result in the loss of scholarships for players who are riding the bench, in preference for incoming recruits. Â
It\'ll be sad to see that some players will probably lose their scholarships, but it was also just revealed that juniors and seniors will be able to transfer outside of the Pac-10 and not lose a year of eligibility in an ESPN article. Â
They are limited to 15 scholarships per year - Redrum - 06-12-2010
for multiple years. Â Depending on who is doing the math and how USC manages the players already on the roster, Â there could be a couple of seasons when they are playing with 65
scholarship players.
You assume
1) Â The very best players will still come to USC to fill those 15 slots. Â (Even with no bowl games?) Anyway, Â Not proven.
2) Â The players who they don\'t get to sign would all have been backups. Â Not proven
3) Â The players that don\'t get signed by USC won\'t contribute somewhere else with Pac-10 rivals. Â Again, no proven.
But the Â
No Worries, Mate defense is in vogue down on Figueroa St., so this won\'t be the last time we hear that analysis.

It\'s just that non-scholarship players are going to be pretty hard to find. Â USC isn\'t cheap, though financial aid may straight up help some kids through. Â You do need those non-scholarship players for the practice squad.
