Your experciences with StubHub?? - bulldogbigred - 10-02-2011

I am planning to go to either Big Game or the Notre Dame game, but since they are both sold out through the ticket office, I will have to go through StubHub.

What are your experiences with buying tickets through StubHub? Is there any risk that it could be a fake??

I'm a big fan of stubhub.  Bought tickets for my parents last night for the UCLA game.  No issues at all...just a question of finding the right tickets for the right price...

I have sold on Stubhub and purchased tickets too.  The process is easy enough.  Stanford Stadium has not exactly been worthy of scamming efforts, so I am sure the tickets will be fine.  It is just a matter of finding a section and a price that work for you.

I had a terrible customer service experience (actually a lack there-of) after a seller failed to deliver the tickets I ordered once.  Stub-Hub's "replacements" were FAR from comparable seats, and they basically said "too bad" and wouldn't return my phone calls.

I would never use them for a game that's not sold out, as I'd rather see the school sell another ticket than cut the losses of a fan who already bought one (who could easily donate it back via GoStanford.com, so some kid can attend for free).  More butts in seats that way!

But the games are sold out.  Amazing, I know, but apparently true.  So would you use StubHub in this situation?  Other options cost a lot more.  If one orders early from Stubhub, the remedies available to StubHub for any problems will be better.  There are going to be a lot of tickets on StubHub for both games, so they will have options to fix almost any situation if the order is placed well in advance.

BTW - Did you try to get tickets for a Stanford event?  Or was it for a venue, sport or artist with a richer tradition of sellouts.

I would recommend StubHub over Craigslist, for example.  Nothing is perfect, but StubHub should be fine.

FWIW - I would suspect that C.a.l might still have part of their allotment available to those with UC connections.

Ohhh... I know those games are sold out (I was making that point with respect to other situations).

My bad experience (just one anecdote, of course) was not at a college football game, and I too would probably use StubHub again over Craigslist, despite that experience.

I didn't realize how little responsibility StubHub took for failed transactions...but the one time I've used them was for the Orange Bowl last year.  I got my front-row, Stanford section seats just as planned.  Wonder if the seller made a profit off of me or simply couldn't make it to the game...

(Shoutout to garvin, who graciously received the tickets at his physical mailing address and handed them off to me at the beach pep rally.  I'm sure he was tempted to scalp them...)

Why not just go to the game and buy tickets off a scalper?  They are easy to find on El Camino.  It's kind of cool too, as you get to see the most clear example of market pricing at work that you'll ever see, and the price decreases the closer it gets to game time.

You don't get to choose your seat too much, but no seat in Stanford Stadium is terrible.
