1 million will look like a small number when the October weeks are posted. A number of companies have already noted they will be making significant payroll cuts after their PPP windows permit layoffs and furloughs.
Also COVID19's second wave could be massive given the USA's lack of preparedness for that wave.
Mick, I hope you aren't planning to continue to keep posting this week after week, as it won't really get better until the USA rallies to defeat COVID19. COVID19 is more than capable of keeping the economy down for several more months if it is allowed to thrive relatively unchecked.

I don't know. That Abbot Laboratories test is a total game changer if it's for real, and it apparently is. We may have seen the worst.

I would like to get the new Abbott testing both for my workplace and for the school where I chair the advisory board. If anyone has any info on how to secure, please post!

October is going to be the worst month any of us have ever experienced in America.
- Unemployment is going to skyrocket when PPP loan requirements expire.
- Millions will be evicted and be hungry.
- Covid will be ramping up again but with flu.
- Stock market bubble is going to burst (it always happens in October).
- We are going to see more white supremacist terrorism, protests, and rioting.
- Russian, Iranian, Chinese cyber warfare is going to ramp up to fever pitch.
- People will be fighting to vote with compromised systems.
- Families, friends and spouses are going to tear apart from each other.
Maybe an asteroid will hit us and put everyone out of their misery.

On the bright side, we may be able to watch SEC football! </sarcasm>

The wish-list for so many folks in these parts (well, perhaps without the asteroid).
Because that way things set up the best for November . . . when things will start looking better. I've never understood the "we need as much overall misery as possible to lay on Trump" - have a little compassion for your neighbor and a little faith in the swing state voters. (And, don't eff it up by too much sanctimony, "we know what's best for you," "you must think and act exactly as I do," etc. - nothing turns off Joe Voter more than that).
And on this latter point, the family was talking at dinner a few night ago about what a disaster 2020 has been, and that it can't get any worse. I immediately thought of something that would cap off the year's drain-circle, but I couldn't bring myself to utter it. But within a couple seconds, one son did. "Well, Trump could get . . ." Utter silence. And that pretty much cast a pall on dinner conversation for that night. . .

I don't share as bearish a view as OF, but I wonder why you assumed it was a wish list. Moreover, whatever you think of the House Democrats' proposal on its merits, I don't think you can accuse them of being miserly in an attempt to hurt the economy and tank Trump's re-election chances.

The government has placed a purchase order for the first 150 million units of production (3 months, roughly until December). Do you have any ins with Trump?

Some big news likely coming down the pipe Oct. 1st for the airlines. As relates to PPP loans...probably not good.

Bill Maher wants a recession so we can get rid of Trump. Mission accomplished, Bill.

Ugh. Bill Maher is a ****.
I agree with Teejers. No one should be hoping for misery just to get one’s preferred candidate elected. If you don’t like who is in power, find a better candidate than the guy in power and do the work to get them elected.

Controversy sells clicks and attracts eyeballs. Maher more than anyone knows how to get a headline. Given some of his other interesting statements in the past, I would not use him as a stand-in for Everyman Democrat.

I got the sense that Maher was deadly serious about that statement. It sounds over the top to a normal human being, but we have to actually care about things like inflation, unemployment rates, doctor bills, repair bills, etc. Maher's worth around $100 million, so he doesn't need to care about us morlocks.

I don't hate you, teejers1, but instead of saying anything further on this matter, I offer a song dedication to the absurdity of your post claiming what I don't want, but see as imminent, is a wish list:
