The Big West conference has joined the postpone because of COVID19 group.

I really don’t get why there’s any question about college students playing sports this fall. They should not. Pros are different they’re getting paid

And then there is the ACC, which went big (possibly 11 games), embraced Notre Dame as a full conference player for 2020, and threw smack at the SEC (which seems to be following the Big Ten / Pac-12 lead).

It's one thing to have a plan to play. It's another to actually go through with playing.

I am beginning to believe that the SEC and ACC will really start playing football this year.    My guess is they could declare that other sports will be delayed because too many opponents for their schools have already opted to postpone to the spring term.    Conveniently allowing them to have a football only fall term.

I doubt they could finish the season, but each weekend would give the SEC & ACC TV revenue.  Most of the SEC schools simply don't have meaningful endowments to even temporarily replace lost revenue, and the state budgets have a lot of other groups looking for COVID19 related relief.

A few coaches and players may be lost but that may be deemed acceptable by the conference execs if it allows the conference to get a few bucks.

Would this survive a Title IX challenge?

I would think so.

"The Plan" would be to offer those sports at some point during the academic year, so it is not as if they were denied a chance to play.  Even in a normal year if one looks at scholarship and participant numbers for just the fall sports, a lot of schools would have significant gender imbalances.   I believe most ACC and many SEC teams have field hockey or women's volleyball, so if they had to offer at least one women's sport they probably could make that happen.

I really didn't believe that the SEC and ACC would push forward with the testing and hospitalization issues in Florida, but we are now close enough to the season that it appears they will just do it as long as FL deaths are "only" a few hundred or so a day.
