Pro Combat unis -

I think the look is trying to be retro, like the 20s or something. I'm not crazy about it, but whatever. The gloves are cool, and the helmet will go well with the all black uniforms, if the contract allows the team to do that.
At least they're not Georgia's or Maryland's.

I like the line from Come Join the Band near the end of the video.

They're kind of growing on me.

They managed to make them ugly
and boring. I'd have rather they been spectacularly ugly.

I have never been a fan of the red on red look. I can handle the helmets for one game, but I would have been happier with Maryland's approach--if you're going to be different for one game, then be DIFFERENT.

The red on red is Arizona's thing, right?
Anyone know what game these are going to be used in? Maybe I'll give those tix to my father-in-law and just follow along on 1050.

It's almost a maroon uniform...I'm not a fan of anything that isn't cardinal red. Also, the helmets are more Texas Tech than anything else. And dark red on black is just a disaster in contrast. Light gray, maybe if I had to choose, but black--no.

They're going to be used for the ND game.
I'm not sure thats Stanford red (Cardinal), and it looks like they just loaded their Georgia uniform onto Photoshop on their Macbook and made minor changes, incorporating none of the history of Stanford uniforms in terms of design.
it's passable, but just seems lazy.

I agree with the consensus that the look is a miss. The MD look was so crazy, and I don't think Stanford has anything that could be THAT different. Stanford has done red shirts and pants before, so this is not that groundbreaking. The black helmet is almost in the whatever category, though I knew that was coming. I would have thought the team would want something more dramatic, but whatever.
The ND and Michigan throwback unis drew major praise. And during that game the cheerleaders and refs were also in throwback inspired gear. That was pretty well done.
This Stanford uni thing will be an entirely uneventful, I just hope there are far more important storylines for that ND vs Stanford game.Â

It's ugly but it is nice to at least have one. May have to do with the fact that we have a wonderful and straightforward regular uniform. You look at something like LSU's and you say "wow" because their uniform is a mess to begin with.

I don't mind them. It's an interesting one game look.Â
It's good to have the National interest and Nike's attention. We don't get this without our recent resurgence and even traditionalists have to admit that you don't say "no" when Nike calls. That's a small price to pay for relevance!

If they lighten the color to something very cardinal red (something brighter), I'll be okay with it. Burnt cardinal doesn't look good.

When I looked at the ads during the summer, I realized that the idea is basically to look like a super hero or combat villain from a futuristic movie. (Tron? Black Shadow?) After that, I "got" it. These guys are big kids and it harkens to the action figures they played with.
They're darker than cardinal, but they're not maroon. I think they're kind of cool for a night game, and probably for just one game of the year. Think of it as their evil alter ego uniform. It might even bring out some extra nastiness! You definitely want the cardinal for the daytime, though.

I'd never thought about that, but that makes me like them a lot more. The color might lighten up when they're not in that dramatic black Nike backdrop, too.

Wow, massive Cal envy! There's two-page (currently 24 message) thread about them on the BearInsider!
