Yes

RE: Williams - Treefence - 04-12-2020

One of our best, if not the best, recruits ever for Stanford basketball from a prospect standpoint.  brobdingnagian for the program which is coming of a very solid season with some nice young talent!

Yes

Good recruiting job by Haase.
247 Sports is usually right.
Now if we can only convince Terry to stay around for another year.

This! =)

RE: Williams - SamuelMcF - 04-12-2020

Absolutely massive. Yes, per ratings, the best Stanford recruit in modern history (at least since the recruiting services have been around).

RE: Williams - 76lsjumb - 04-12-2020

Under the circumstances, I Just hope he doesn’t turn out to be a “none and done “ ...

RE: Williams - grantavalon - 04-12-2020

Haase and Cohen are great recruiters. Jon Rothstein has the team at 24th for next year, without Ty. If he does come back, this team is extremely well positioned

RE: Williams - burger - 04-12-2020

Fantastic news!  Maybe this will an inducement for Terry to return if a first round pick doesn't seem likely.

Not quite the number 1 recruit overall, but I think he's the #1 SF.

Interesting what he said when he thanked the coaches who recruited him: "I thank you for giving me the confidence that I never had but always needed..."

Probably doesn't mean too much, but maybe he's a kid who is looking to coaches to shape the direction of his game?

RE: Williams - 2006alum - 04-12-2020

WOO WOO! About time for some good news in basketball land! Now let's hope Terry returns, Carrington gets a scholly and a grad degree option, and Wilson gets a 5th year from the NCAA!

I wouldn't be surprised if that is also in reference to being admissible to Stanford. I think us fans don't appreciate enough how much work the coaches of our basketball teams do behind the scenes to work with recruits to put themselves in position to get the big envelope. It's not just a question of talent but also motivation and know-how to take the right classes, etc. It can be a brobdingnagian motivational boost to a 15-year-old to have a Stanford coach call them and say "you have what it takes to get in if you want it!"

One more argument for the 40-year decision, BTW. That kind of confidence instilled lasts a lifetime.

RE: Williams - JJJ - 04-12-2020

Great news but it always cracks me up when they say University of Stanford. He’ll learn. :)

Certainly the best in a long time, along with Childress, Jacobsen, and the Collins & Lopez twins

RE: Williams - PVTree - 04-12-2020

What a fantastic day for Stanford basketball.

Only, if there was some equally-great news for Stanford football.

Seems like we can't have both in an apex. Only one can be up while the other struggles. Guess it's basketball's turn to be up.

That's been the pattern for most of the school's history. Though, there have been a few notable exceptions e.g. 1999 when we went to Rose Bowl and had a dominant basketball team. 2001 was pretty solid for both programs. But, yeah, hard to find too many examples.

Terry is now our most important "recruit"

So if Terry doesn't return,  our starting lineup is...
Davis
Willis
Williams
Jones
Da Silva
?

Hope we can find some depth.

Williams is not the only recruit we signed this year.  We already had a pretty good class with 4* power forward Max Murrell, 3* SF Brandon Angel, and 3* SG Noah Taitz.

We now have the top-ranked recruiting class in the Pac-12 (though that is driven by numbers).  Before Williams, we were still in the top 3.
