Tony The Tiger? - Farm93 - 12-31-2019

Hold on,

I had no idea the Sun Bowl was the "Tony the Tiger" Sun Bowl until I saw Kellogg's cartoon on the field.

That's crazy.   I guess it doesn't matter as long as the sponsor pays the money and the brand does not have promotion restrictions (alcohol, tobacco, etc.)

I am happy that the Sun Bowl has a lot of folks in the stands.   They probably have wanted ASU or UofA to be in the bowl for a long, long time.  I just wish the SEC network (err... CBS) was not covering the game.   The SEC has been mentioned more often than Pac-12 even with a Pac-12 team on the field.

Sun Bowl actually usually draws pretty well, in large part due to local fans in the city. It's El Paso's biggest event of the year...that city supports that bowl and the community turns out for it. Hospitality is top notch, too. El Paso does a great job putting on that game every year.

It ain't Pasadena, but it ain't bad. (that said, it ain't Pasadena.....)

Yeah, that Tony the Tiger logo is ridiculous. Makes the Sun Bowl look like a Clown Town act. I had always considered the Sun Bowl a second tier, though respectable bowl - certainly one with some history - but hard it's hard to take is seriously when they pull this crap.

Ridicule all you want.

Apparently it's part of nationwide marketing program, Mission Tiger, with a charitable side--funding for middle school sports. Some big name sports celebrities have signed on, including some with a Stanford connection.

Sure beats Hyundai, Belk, Poulan, and even Tostitos. . . .

Since I was a young child I've had an affinity for Tony the Tiger.  I think he's grrrrrreat!

Me, too.

And El Pasodena ain't all bad - the locals treat you like welcome guests (unlike so many other bowl host cities).

A good mission to be sure...and I loved the cereal as a kid...but that twenty-yard wide logo of Tony the Tiger...just gauche.

Second happiest I ever was, leaving El Paso and watching the ground drop away.  Couldn't wait to leave that city.

Happiest was leaving Monterrey, Mexico.  Story for another day.

Herm Edwards got a frosted-flake bath (without the milk) instead of the usual icy Gatorade baptism.
