EJ Smith odds - Hulk01 - 12-18-2019

Steve Witfong woke up those morning, went to his computer, and put his bet on Stanford in the EJ Smith sweepstakes.
Over his career, he's hit nine calls in ten and may be closer to 95 in 100 in Stanford predictions.

Four calls for Stanford in total, none of any other team.

Looks like a true modern combo player, can catch balls deep and attack the line.

he did indeed.
and it's going to be tough for the athletes who announce over the next few hours to match the impression made by EJ and his parents.

Current Class Ranking from Rivals:

https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2020/pac12/football

Cardinal are ranked 22nd nationally and third in the Pac-12 behind Washington and Oregon.  However, we have the highest average recruit rating in the conference.

Geaux Cardinal!

RE: EJ Smith odds - BostonCard - 12-18-2019

When you add McKee coming back from a mission, this is a really nice offensive recruiting class.  Coupled with the class of 2019, I think this is the best two-year haul on offense in quite some time.  Crucially we have quality and depth at offensive line, including a bunch of guys that played early this year out of necessity.  The one red flag, such as it is, is that we only have one QB recruited over the last two years (technically zero, since McKee was originally counted in the 2018 class).  If McKee doesn't pan out, that really does put a major dent in the offensive potential in 2-3 years.

Defense, though, remains a concern for me.  The late addition of Gilman at safety does help at a position of need, and we have some bodies up front.  But we went oh-for-linebacker again.  The two-year haul at ILB is fine (we have Sinclair, DiCosmo, and Danumi from 2019), but the two-year haul at OLB consists of just Stephen Herron.  Three defensive linemen total over two years is also woefully inadequate.  So yeah, looking 2-3 years down the line, front seven will again be a problem.

This is shaping up to be a very good class. However, taking no LB's (0 ILB and 0 OLB)
seems a bit concerning.

Five offensive linemen and EJ Smith? Stanford football might go back to being Stanford football again!
