Tomorrow's gonna be a day! -
Viking_Guy - 11-23-2019
Let's look at this lineup:
11 AM - Stanford WVB at Colorado, with Stanford needing to win there, at WSU on Tuesday (a gargantuan match), and home v Cal to lock down a number 1 seed and hosting a regional
1 PM - Stanford Women's Soccer v. #18 Penn State, with a place in the Elite Eight on the line
2 PM - Stanford Women's Basketball v. Buffalo, a team that gave us fits last year
3 PM - Stanford Men's Water Polo v Cal in the MPSF Championship game at Cal - with the Bears probably needing to win to make the NCAA tourney and probably amped as all get out by their win over SC and the football game today, and Stanford looking to lock down the #1 overall seed
5 PM - Stanford Men's Soccer vs. #20 Seattle in the NCAA round of 32
If that's not a pizza and couch kinda day, I don't recognize one.

It sure is going to be a big one. But I wish the water polo match could be the first business of the day. For reasons.

Stanford WVB leads Colorado 2-0 in sets and is up in the 3rd. Sweep it girls!

Hallock ejected before the end of the 2nd. Gritting it out.
MWP ✓
BEAT CAL!

MWP ends Cal's year with a 17-11 victory. The commentators were unsure who the NCAA will award the two at-large bids to, with four or so teams all having a decent argument. USC beat UCLA in the MPSF 3rd place game.

Always nice not to have to sweat it out as an at large.

Men's soccer comes down to penalty kicks....
....and our keeper saves 4 and sends us through!
That is 5 for 5 on the day!

What a perfect day in Stanford Athletics

A perfect record in basketball maintained.
Clinching a share of the volleyball conference title.
Winning the conference crown and auto bid for water polo.
And advancing in both soccer tournaments.
We’re very lucky to be Stanford fans.

OK, question for the fans:
Would you have traded all 5 wins yesterday (which would mean an early exit from the tournament for both soccer teams, not clinching the automatic bid for the WP tournament, losing out on a #1 seed in VB, and a disappointment in WBB) in exchange for beating Cal on Saturday?

No.
After Colorado L, Stanford football going nowhere bowl-wise. This was as good a Big Game to lose as any could have been, all things considered.

While there is
never a good Big Game to lose, I agree with you, because while you want to win every Big Game, some Big Games (like Rose Bowl cliniching ones) are more important than others.
Still chaps my hide that this particular one clinched a Bowl Game for Cal and clinched a losing season for us. But I'll take 5 wins (including a WP win over Cal in the MPSF final) over a Big Game win in a season that is already in the toilet.

Mutually exclusive? No. I want to to see Stanford win all five that we did, plus beat a crappy Cal football team with our crappy Stanford team. Meet or exceed the expectations. Complacency sucks.
