Are we going to wear the black uniforms? Feels like the kind of game where we'd do that.

I'm impressed by everyone's optimism here. We beat UW and all of a sudden people are predicting a two touchdown win...
FWIW, the line is Stanford -7, which strikes me as about right. I'd probably go 28-21 or 28-24.

Opened at -7.5, now down to -6.5. Vegas clearly doesn't have a lot of faith in the Cardinal. Considering the value of home field, I'd guess they look at us as just slightly better.

Also, this just strikes me as a classic trap game.

Akina in the Troy Treecast podcast says "we can't fall into the trap." Hopefully, the team takes it to heart.

We've got injuries -- but so do Bruins. Who will play QB for them?
-- I'm OK with either Costello or Mills starting. Mills has looked sharper than Costello most recently.
I have Cardinal by 17 -- not just because we beat the Huskies, but cuz the Beavs put 48 on them.
Bruins are worst in points allowed at 37.7 and Yards conceded (>500 per game). We are 7th at 26.5, and 6th in YPG allowed.

Costello has been ruled out. Mills is between questionable and doubtful, which, to translate Shaw-speak means he's unlikely to play. Next man up: Jack West.

Has Shaw ever said a player was questionable the week before a game and then played him?

If I am optimistic (two TD victory), it is because the Cardinal defense showed up against the Huskies and is not suffering any major injuries. Scarlett was also able to run against a Husky defense that is supposed to be stout, quite unlike UCLA's defense. Hence, I expect Scarlett to have another career day if the O-line does its job. We beat UW by 10 at home. A two TD margin against UCLA should be possible. Of course, there is the QB question looming. If West is under center the entire game, that could very well limit our offensive production.
I am not worried about this being a trap game. For a team that started out 1-3 and looked to be heading toward a miserable season, every game (regardless of the opponent) is a must-win. You cannot be looking past anybody. Every home game needs to be a W (except for maybe Notre Dame) if the 2019 Cardinal want to make a bowl game. Going 4-2 down the stretch is still feasible; but every game needs to have a circle around it.

If we are starting a new QB (which we probably will be), I don't expect us to light up the scoreboard, even against the Bruin D. If we get a lead, you can bet your bottom dollar Shaw will try to sit on it.
I'm calling it Stanford 20, UCLA 17
This game, I predict, won't be one for the time capsule..

At least based on this article, it is still somewhat up in the air.

When the article needs to say "had full range of motion" that doesn't sound like the words used to describe someone who would be playing a game in three days.

Normally, I would agree. However, with Chip Kelly in charge of data dissemination, I wouldn't read anything at all into it. It may also be dependent on the trade off of winning this game vs. winning more games later in the season. We don't know how much risk UCLA is willing/is allowed to take with DTR's future health. I think we actually know nothing at all about who will play at QB, and for how long. They may send DTR out there just to see if he can go. If he can't, fall back to plan B.

A guy and his dog walk into a bar for the Stanford/UCLA game.
The bartender says, "No, no, no. Absolutely no dogs allowed."
The man replies, "But this dog is special. If Stanford scores he'll walk across bar on his hind legs. If UCLA scores he'll walk across the bar on his front legs. And when Stanford wins he does backflips."
The bartender says, "Backflips? Wow. And what if UCLA wins?"
The man says, "Don't know. My dog is only 10 years old."

I think it's more likely Vegas doesn't like that Stanford appears likely to be starting a true frosh QB who's never thrown a pass in college. I actually thought the line opened bigger than that. I swear a I saw -9.5 or -10.
