Softball starts Friday - BobK - 02-06-2019
Stanford is picked 8th Oregon last. Oregon just added 5 new players. I gather they were already in school

Two games on Friday (8 & 11 AM) and one on Tuesday (possibly delayed 1.5 hrs) are on PAC-12 National.
Even though I haven't followed them in the past, this gives me a convenient way to watch however much I want and get an idea of who they are.

My bad. A Stanford game from Sunday is broadcast on PAC-12 National on Tuesday.

Not quite sure how anyone could pick Utah ahead of us, given we finished better than them last year, and they lost their entire rotation.
Oregon did add 5 walk-ons from their club softball team, so they are clearly in great shape right now. :)

Ugh. We had a 4-0 lead, and when I just checked the score again, it was 4-4.
Three unearned runs on 2 errors, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly for the fourth run.

Team decided to not play D in that inning Misjudged the. Missed drive to Center and poor plays at third and just like that 4 runs
Plus we are leaving runners on base

Great job Kiana. She looks on point to start the season. Glad to see she is healthy after her bad injury last year.

We have struck out 8 times, and left 8 on base. As Coach A would say, we are showing the flashes of potential. Need to finish innings to score.
The freshmen are really impressing me though. Klingaman, Young, Gindlesperger, Matteson all making early contributions in their first collegiate games.
One thing that I am really liking about our offense today is that we are taking pitches, and really wearing down the opposing staff.
We have now chased 2 pitchers, with bases loaded and only 1 out in Top 7th.
Inouye!! Clear the bases. Card back in front!

Actually that play on CF was not oh never mind as our 3B Inouye hits a bases loaded triple.

Game starting to get really out of hand; if not for an unlucky bounce hitting Horeczko as base runner to record 2nd out,
Card would have double digits.

Well, to echo my earlier point, we certainly finished that inning. :)
The freshmen class is the real deal, and we look like, if we stay relatively healthy, that
we can challenge the middle of the pack in the Pac and exceed expectations once
again.
I am really impressed.
All right now, Card improve to 1-0 with a convincing 12-5 win over Bradley.

Stanford jumps out to an early 1-0 lead over Kansas off bat of Teagan Cowles. Her first collegiate home run.
A shootout might be brewing in Game 2. Jayhawks take 2-1 lead in top 2, before Stanford comes back with two of its own in bottom of 2nd.
Card now leading 3-2.

Yep. Also against Kansas. But a Power 5 win is a Power 5 win, particularly when it as done as efficiently and impressively
as we did against KU. 12-3 in a 5-inning run rule.
