Say what you will about Mike Leach... - 2006alum - 10-20-2018

...but the man isn't afraid to speak (text?) truth to power re: the overturned targeting calls in the WSU game against U$C.

Some favorites:

Quote:Leach blasted Dixon in one of his texts, sent four days after the loss to the Trojans, writing: "Woodie is a total coward and is afraid of USC. I look forward to telling him in person."

Quote:In another text, which Leach sent to Dixon, he criticized the Pac-12's commitment to player safety in the wake of the helmet-to-helmet hit by Gustin. "Don't ever waste my time, making me sit through some sanctimonious speech or demonstration on player safety or targeting if you are going to continue to alibi what happened last Friday," Leach wrote in his text.

I like it, and the PAC-12 deserves to get absolutely slammed, shamed, and dragged for this. It's a terrible practice and a terrible look for the conference.

Yep, there is nothing shy or retiring about Mr. Leach. Whether you dig his act or not, you have to admit he has done a good job at Wazzu, which is not an easy place for coaches to succeed.

Here's a quote on Mike Leach from Jeff Nusser at CougCenter:

"He’s a bit of an enigma, at times telling the quirky stories everyone loves, at other times behaving churlishly with certain members of the media, at other times spreading conspiracy theories on Twitter. It’s easy for him to become a bit of a caricature.

To be honest, I don’t actually care about any of this. I don’t approve of his political views and wish he’d be nicer to some people, but as long as he keeps winning football games, he can do pretty much whatever he wants. It’s not like we have to be best friends."

Leach certainly isn’t afraid to speak truth to power.
Neither is he afraid to speak nonsense to power.
Or nonsense to no particular power at all.
In this case he isn’t afraid to ignore  that one of the not-called targetings was committed by his guy.

I love him. Plus he wins. 2.5 point favorite today. But can they hang with the Ducks speed and Herbert?

Third reading of your post and it still makes me laugh out loud.  Perfect summary of Leach.

I love to hate Leach. He’s funny and loathesome at the same time.

This recent story about the fake play card that he planted in the Red River rivalry 20 years ago is a great read:

Yeah, Leach just seems to throw provocative stuff against the wall; sometimes he hits a legitimate target.  In this case, his complaints would carry more weight if they were accompanied by an acknowledgement that his own guy got away with a target.

Wonder if he has political aspirations. Seems to be vaguely reminiscent of someone in politics today.
