This has all the earmarks of a very uninspiring, poorly played, boring snooze fest of a game. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt I'll stay up to watch on the east coast. Will DVR it, but I'm not even sure I'll watch before looking at the score.  I have no desire to watch boring football.

We need to know this?

RE: Are you ready? (Utah motivational) - BobK - 10-06-2018

I just fell asleep reading this tread

RE: Are you ready? (Utah motivational) - OutsiderFan - 10-06-2018

Last week at this time fans were fired up about the opportunity to see what seemed like two relatively evenly matched teams go at it for Top 10 positioning.

This week it feels like nobody cares about Utah, like the season is over after the beat down Stanford took in South Bend, given how little discussion there has been about the Utes game.  I'm concerned the lack of enthusiasm for this game will be reflected in the game itself.

But I made my first post in this thread to maybe see if anyone else felt similarly about the dynamics that seem to be setting up for the Utah game.

Can anyone confirm that we're wearing black uni's today?  If so, maybe an effort to psyche up.  Probly a good ploy.

That's what I'm hearing.

I am fired up.  I have never cared about the playoffs or national championship--I detest that system and don't watch it.  My passion is going to the Rose Bowl and beating a Big10 team.  Second after that comes beating USC and third after that is beating C.al.  So long as we keep beating Pac 12 teams all my goals are in reach.  Losing to Notre Dame was not fun, but if I had to pick any game to lose in the regularly scheduled season I would have opted for that one.  The game this week could be another step toward the Rose Bowl.  Not as important as the North teams but more important than Notre Dame.

Hope also springs eternal that we will begin to see progress in those areas that the whole world now knows are weaknesses.  The awfulness of our O-line is so completely out of character and dumbfounding, really, that I have to believe it will turn around.  At least, I am eager to see the next game to see if it does.

Probably the most pivotal game of the season. A win would be a brobdingnagian confidence booster, especially if Love is out and/or very limited.

Lose and doubt really starts to grow...I don't want to contemplate what the "floor" is for the season.

RE: Are you ready? (Utah motivational) - winflop - 10-06-2018

I see far more downside than upside tonight.

Utah has only won 2 of its last 10 Pac-12 games. They've got name cache but not much behind it this year & last year. The only upside I see is if
1. the OL finds a new level at which to play and starts moving the LOS downfield,
2. the DL is able to get pressure with only 3 or 4 rushing

If these things happen, this is a double-digit win or even three scores (17+). Anything short of domination is either meh or is downside depending on the extent to which 1 & 2 above don't happen.

After watching these game hype videos I get all excited and make stupid score predictions.  I mean, you watch this video and you think "Our O cannot be stopped," and "Damn, our D is a brick wall!"  Reminds me of the not so old adage, "Don't believe everything you see/read on the internet."  I'm excited about the black unis, but chronic sobriety tells me that this might be a punt fest.  One glimmer of hope is our penchant in recent seasons of starting slow and ugly before flipping a switch and playing lights out.  Maybe this will be our breakout game.

I'm setting the O/U on punts at 12 between the two teams.

Hoping for under, expecting over.

Mostly, I just want to see us win. Yes, I will be there. It would be great to see improved OL play. Utah does at least have a big DL. If we can move them at all, that would be great. Most important is to live to fight another day. Many people have said the PAC-12 is "down" this year. That is probably true (consider the South, if nothing else), despite a possible resurgence in Oregon. OK, let's use that to our advantage. We just need to hold serve against the teams we "should" beat, and lay it all on the line against UW. Tonight is a game we "should" win, based on Utah's record. What we need to do is make sure we DO win. I think it improbable that Utah is nearly as bad as their record indicates. They will be tough, and we need to play with urgency.

That sounds like the Utah de-motivational.

Don’t relate to this. Getting ready to head out to the stadium. Really excited about tonight’s game.

During the offseason I wait 9 months for the season to start and to go out to the stadium and watch these games in-person. Going to Stanford football games is one of my favorite things to do.

Go Cardinal!

Woot!

We've beaten USC and Oregon.  That's a good start to a season.  Heck, before the season everyone was saying if we only had one less at this point we'd be onto something.  Some aspects of our game have underwhelmed thus far, but some have surprised on the upside.  That's part of every season, especially with 18-21 year olds still developing mentally and physically.  There will be growth over every season, that's the fun and mysterious part.

I BELIEVE.
And I'm excited. So there's that, fwliw.
