Shaw is (joint) #1 -

CBS did a survey of "the cleanest coaches in the country".
Shaw is joint number one with Chris Peterson.

Reinforces everything I've heard about Shaw. Makes me proud to be a Stanford fan.
You might notice an absence of SEC coaches on this list.

I liked this list until I saw this:
Also receiving votes: Urban Meyer (Ohio State)

I assumed those votes were cast tongue-in-cheek, or by coaches who wanted to show just how silly this "opinion" survey is.

Yeah, they said they spoke at the start of the season, so maybe the current scandal hadn’t broken yet.
Also, you might take note of their methodology. They say they spoke to 1/5 of the 129 FBS coaches. That’s about 26 coaches. So each coach is 4% of the vote. So if they show the percentages going down to 8%, other coaches receiving votes probably received 4% of the vote, or one vote. Maybe the person who voted for Urban Meyer is Urban Meyer. Or his buddy.

Thanks Snorlax. I probably enjoyed your comment more than I should have, but it was very funny.

Shaw and Petersen are amazing coaches. I'm glad we both have them in the Pac-12. David Shaw being clean is no surprise. We value our reputation more than our football success on the field.

Perhaps most stunning is how low the percentages are across the board. Shaw and Peterson are #1, with 17% believing that each of them runs a completely clean, and by-the-books program. But that means that 83% do not believe it.
And, again, I'll reiterate that they were #1 (i.e., 17% is enough to be more believed than anybody else throughout all of college football).

No, I don't think that is what you can take away from this survey. It seems that each voter got exactly one vote. Voting for one coach out of possible 129 does not necessarily imply a vote against the other 128.

At the end of the article, where there are comments from the coaches with reasons for their vote, there is no comment about Shaw. Does that mean it goes without saying that he runs a clean program?

The vote was for the cleanest program. 83% of the respondents thought a coach other than Shaw ran the cleanest program.
It's a reasonable guess that Meyer got one vote.
