I certainly appreciate the sportsmanship, but as a parent at the losing school I really wanted a W after my beloved Card failed to advance
a few days earlier . . .

I kinda see it more of an exemplar of friendship between the pitcher and hitter than a story of sportsmanship, though I can see how it showed respect and kindness toward an opponent. At any rate, whenever I read stories like that, I usually think: 1) wow, he must have great parents, and 2) wow, I'll bet he goes far in life.
