football seat relocation - 82lsju - 04-25-2018

some of you probably received the same email I did on football seat relocation.

We have several buyers in our group and I was wondering how our dates/times compared to others.

The earliest date/time in our group is 4/27/2018 @8am.

The latest date/time in our group is 5/2/2018 @3pm

There are two others between these on 5/1/2018.

Anyone else care to share your date/time?

the earliest time has had season tix since 1982, is an alum, and a regular small donor to the AD and the University

the last time is a season ticket holder since ~2005, not an alum and not a donor

ADD: another in our group has 4/30/2018 at 10am.  Long time STH (probably since early 1980s, alum, former athlete, regular small donor to AD and the University.

ADD2:  so the original email says the re-seating ends on 05/16/2018 at 4PM so the last people to get to relocate probably get access earlier that day or maybe the day before (just guessing)

ADD3: we have another on 05/03/2018 at 9am

RE: football seat relocation - BigEasyCard - 04-25-2018

My window opens on 5/9 at 10 am.

Alum, season ticket holder since about 2010, modest annual donor to Stanford for decades, Buck Cardinal donor.

Geaux Cardinal!

Interesting, I'm on 5/7 and am only the first two of those. I wonder what the difference is.

At any rate I won't be using this tool this year, but my kid will be old enough next year that I should nominally buy him his own seat, so I may need it then. Depends on if we want to try to go to 3 seats, we're hemmed in and can't just add one next to us, at least without coordinating with a neighbor.

RE: football seat relocation - 82lsju - 04-25-2018

here's the "engagement" criteria

The following criteria, not necessarily in this order, determine your level of engagement with Stanford University

- Annual gifts to the Buck/Cardinal Club
- Years of season ticket purchases in all season-ticketed sports
- Total lifetime giving to Stanford Athletics
- Total lifetime giving to Stanford University
- Bequest intentions to Stanford Athletics
- Volunteer service on an athletic or university board
- Stanford alumnus/a
- Former Stanford student-athlete

I'm more or less the same profile as BigEasy and my slot is a few hours earlier than him (5/8 at 2pm).

Stupac, I've got 3 seats.  Looking at the site I've got much fewer options to relocate than if I had 2 or 4 seats, which surprises me since I thought there'd be more stray singles.  They seem to be doing a good job optimizing the seating assignment.

RE: football seat relocation - Snorlax94 - 04-25-2018

As I figured, I am last (so far)!
5/9 11:30AM

I've been a season ticket holder since only 2016 / Alum / Modest AD Donor / More to the University

At the Pac 12 Championship Game, from the people I sat around, my impression was that people like "Season Ticket Holder <10 years" got put in the same general category; though, that may also be due to the tight time constraints to distribute seats for a bowl game. Also, I wondered whether the fact that I buy 4 season tickets a year gives credit for 8 ticket-years.

But for ticket relocation, they've had many months to prepare and it looks like there many fine gradations (Just on 5/9, we've now seen a 10AM group and an 11:30AM group)

I wish there were more transparency to the engagement algorithm, though I can understand why the university would try to avoid it. But, from anecdotal evidence, it appears to me that "How Much You Donated to Buck This Year" vastly outweighs the other criteria, and from one former track person I know, it appears any varsity sport also carries significant weight (though I imagine former athletes also probably donate more than average).

RE: football seat relocation - Farm93 - 04-25-2018

I get May 2nd.   Which sounds about right after reading the other dates noted in this thread.

I am sure current donation activity coupled with current seat tier pretty much explains the secret formula.   It used to be an informal reality that current location, which itself was a function of donations, and donations determined your chance for upgrades.  Generally level of engagement with Stanford beyond donations was highly correlated with donations too.   So in the end, donation level probably was a great predictor of upgrade success.

The size of the group always makes things hard. Singles (1 seat types) could almost get to the best sections back in the day.   And that is true with most concerts and sporting events BTW.  3 seat groups could get great allocations too as any location with three open seats was much better to fill with 3 than with 2 and a hope for a single later on.

Groups of 8 or more were always dreaming if they wanted upgrades, unless someone in the group was a major new donor.  Maybe in the new system they will be able to see if staying together is really worth it, if they can see various blocks of 4 seats that would work better if they split up by a row or two.

In theory I like the idea of looking for seat upgrades, but I tend to doubt it will work like selecting seats on airplanes.   On airplanes loads of people travel without others, so the need to avoid single open seats is not as big of a problem when assigning passengers.   In a stadium, those spaces with 5 or 3 open seats need to be assigned to groups with an odd number to avoid the dreaded single open seat.   So my guess is there will be some form of process behind the scenes to make sure that the right sized groups are filling to available open spots to avoid creating loads of single open seats throughout the stadium.

It will not be a perfect process in year one, but at least it will give everyone some insights.

How long have you been a season ticket holder? Do you donate to the AD?

I figured I had to be last or almost last. I've bought for only two years, which would be close to the absolute minimum (someone who got season tickets for the first time in 2017).

Very frustrated to read this. My date/time is 5/2/18 @ 9am. I have been an STH since 1998, am an alum, have donated something to BCC for over a decade and have been a 4-figure donor the last 3 years.

this person has been buying seats since 1984, but was only split out as a "named" buyer in ~2005.  They do travel to away games and buy those tickets through the AD.  Unclear how the AD tracks those factors.

Football season ticket holder only (with the family plan); no AD donations.  Not sure how long I've been a season ticket holder; definitely less than 10 years, probably more than 5.  I've been to several bowl games, but not purchased through the AD.

I don't actually care as I have no desire to upgrade; the family plan suits my purposes just fine.

RE: football seat relocation - 82lsju - 04-25-2018

no one in our group is relocating this year. I'm just interested in trying to see how "engagement" works.

RE: football seat relocation - g1313 - 04-25-2018

5/4 at 10AM

2 season tickets since 2012, upper level sunnyside. (6 years)
alum, no AD or BCC donations, a few thousand to university lifetime giving.

RE: football seat relocation - qwerty49 - 04-25-2018

STH since 1986 (actually earlier than that but I missed a couple of years somewhere between 1973 and 1985), BCC small donor every year (goes back to the days when BCC donation was mandatory), alum.

5/1, 10am

FB and WBB season ticket holder for several years, regular at WBB banquet, modest annual Buck/Cardinal donor, alum, alumni association lifetime member (may count as a donation).

RE: football seat relocation - CardinalSagehen - 04-25-2018

I may be the winner here: 5/10, 11AM.

- STH for ~6 years (mini-plans for a few years prior to that)
- non-alum
- token donations to BCC
- Family Plan last season
- no Pac 12 championship last season due to being out of town (but have purchased some post-season games in the past)

I wish "level of engagement" could account for the percent of snaps you've watched (100%!) or the proportion of your free time that you spend pondering Stanford football, but I'm not surprised by my lack of status.  Like BC, I'm fine with the Family Plan and it meets my current needs.

RE: football seat relocation - BigEasyCard - 04-26-2018

Would someone whose time slot is ahead of mine (almost all posters thus far) be kind enough to describe the experience of using the new seat relocation functionality?

Even if I don't improve my seats, I'll be glad to be back in the stands this coming season.

Geaux Cardinal!

Being curious I went to the site to see what you could do, you can see current availability of seats anywhere in the stadium, since my time was not yet active I don't know for sure what the experience but it looked like you would just pick available seats and then I presume it would do the financial transaction if the new seats cost more.  It seemed like it would work pretty well.  The system is apparently used by other schools as well so we're not the test subjects for the system.
