Just went through some unlabeled CD-ROMS and... -
yvonne - 06-11-2011
I'm going through old CD-ROMS looking for some pictures my mom wanted, and I stumbled upon the backup of "Stanfordfanz CardBoard" made with some software called webbbs. That takes me back! I think it's the original, and
NO, I'm not going to dig up any old messages!

What's impressive about that is that there were actual
backups!! Nice work!

You tell us this and tease us by refusing to remind the board of its past? Who used to post back in the day who doesn't post any more now? :p

This was a 2002 backup disc.

Garvin's post sounds right .... I remember briefly trying to convince folks to come back to the old, free booty before realizing the rift was too deep to be repaired .... and likely to keep getting wider as commercial interests took a deeper hold of the booty. I realized my inclinations and preference ran with the Cardboard crowd in the summer of 1999.Â
I still recognize a lot of the names from late 1999 .... including some now very occasional posters (FIR/FIM/FIC and Teejers for two.) Was Big Red/UKRed a 1999 Cardboard immigre? That might be one name that's dropped off since the old days.
Can't remember what I had for breakfast, um, if any. -

The oldest capture I can find is from summer '03, courtesy of the infamous wayback machine (loads kinda slow, try'n wait for it):

IIRC early adopter Redrum was bicoastal.. not so much bailing from TheBootleg as engaging here and there too, & more power to him. I gave the Booty up after stuff I tried to share mysteriously went away. Ah well.
Oh yeah, and heroic Viking Guy was there too.

I think I started sometime in 2000.

Yes, Viking Guy helped me with some early technical issues.
I dunno, maybe a 2002 backup has it ALL - Redrum - 06-13-2011
The scary thing is that it is possible that all the traffic from 1999 to 2002 really could fit on a single disc. What were we thinking?
Odd that we are still around and have posters with no idea where we came from...and Longwinded, the sour breeze blowing out of Orange County, CA that started the everything-sucks bonfire has all but retired. He disappeared for years, then lurked and just last year made a couple of posts over on the Bootleg. still along the same lines: Stanford is doomed, Harbaugh's influence can't last, we are all deluded fools. He was a bit more relaxed and civil in delivering the message, but it's the same.

Garvin -- I agree with you about longwinded. he is rather humorous in person -- still not a cloudless sunny day, but much different than his cyberpersonae.
I always liked LongWinded's posts... -

...kinda miss the old turkey buzzard.
Can't believe I've been doing this since 1999. Go Cardinal!

Jay,
The captures you have are using YaBB 1.x. The files on disc are from an older software, Webbbs. The original BootBoard was built using the ancient and very hackable WWWboard! That software did not even have password and user name authentication!

Wow, Blueblood. Now there's a blast from the past...
