Oregon pays 1.7 million for Leavitt to stay.

How many programs are going to come offer $2+ million to steal away a defensive coordinator?
My bet is Leavitt didn't have another offer worth looking at.

Obviously he likes dismal cold rain over humid warm rain.

Kind of interesting consequence for Taggart here. From what I'd heard, part of what impressed ADs so much about Taggart was his high-powered Oregon staff. It looks like he'll get barely any of the important coaches from Eugene.

I thought OSU hiring Reilly as  “Assistant Head Coach” was pretty interesting.

Not sure I understand this comment. One would think that if Oregon paid 1.7 to keep him they had to believe he was a hot commodity. Or maybe they went to the Peter McGowan school of negotiations and paid him twice what anyone else was willing to offer.

As of today it looks like the 2 coaches who were USF legacies for sure to head to USF, maybe WR coach Johnson who was a Harbaugh referral to Taggart as a third to either Taggart OR Harbaugh, who last summer had already offered Johnson a job @ Michigan when the 10th coach addition seemed a sure thing. DL coach Joe Salave'a has informed players he is staying, so Ducks appear to have kept their top 4 behind Taggart: Cristobal, Leavitt, Arroyo, & Salave'a, plus the other two DB coaches were hires mostly provided by Leavitt, so most are assuming that they will stick as well.

Not nearly the disaster that was looming a week ago. That said, Ducks were certainly dominated by Boise State in their bowl game, but I'm not sure how to interpret that, as I was dead wrong on the game prediction. So, maybe a one off like Chip Kelly's ugly loss to Boise in his opening game as UO head coach; or, the first awkward effort of a Mora level crew who may only be OK.

BTW, seems Taggart is well networked, particularly with the Harbaugh family so I think there's a good chance he  ends up pulling together another high end staff @ FSU. Always fun to follow that stuff too.

Both of these comments seem a bit confusing to me. Leavitt was already being paid a base of about $1.2 million, and as WIM alluded to: delivering Levitt to FSU was widely seen as a big part of the Seminoles attraction to the Taggart 'package'. So, that was the bidding war. Not a stretch to see this given the impressive job he did with the UO defense in his first year, following the prodigious turnaround he effected at Colorado in 3 years. This was all over the FSU and UO boards and mentioned on sites like Rivals, Scout-24/7 and SBNation. "Sources" floated numbers like $1.5mil as the FSU offer, which would seem reasonable for a guy making $1.2mil, as would a counter offer of $1.7 mil.

Sure, the bidding stuff is blogosphere 'source'-speculation that may never come out, but the fact is UO did bump his salary from $1.2mil to $1.7mil and he's still going to be coaching in our division and not 3K miles away. And Chip Kelly is going to be playing us every year instead of Willie Taggart, so WIM's header of "coaching non-attrition" seems spot on.

Leach just got an extension @ WSU, that included a $400K increase in the pool of cash for assistants' salaries. DC Alex Grinch's dalliance with Ohio State may have fast tracked this item. He's done a hell of a job up there as well.

Actually we could use a little more humid warm rain in Tallahassee.
It's been a pretty dry year.

Grinch has done a tremendous job. Would love to see him leave the Palouse.

Unless his destination is Westwood or something, in which case no thanks.
