Not a good start. We look outclassed on both sides of the floor

My first look this year. Is that a hairnet? :o

This Stanford team doesn't look ready to compete against top 10 teams.Â
I understand the value of a few games against top tier teams before conference play, but the UNC, UF combination appears to be a bit much.

Our propensity for turnovers and poor perimeter D are maddening...

Yeah, not ready for the Top 10 teams or Eastern Washingtons of the world. So far this is a fundamentally bad team.

This is too bad. I'm in town for a week and will be attending the Montana game anyway!

Before you go bashing the team, you should realize that three freshmen are starting because Pickens & Sheffield are wearing matching boots. With those two healthy (fingers crossed it's less a month or less), White becomes first guard off the bench and da Silva becomes the first big man off the bench and we are a much better team at both ends of the court.
And if Okpala can get his grades straightened out, we have a TON of talented depth on the front line.

+1. And not only is the team thin because of injury but Florida drained 13 3-pointers in the first half and finished 15-22 from three point range. Some of that can be attributed to poor perimeter defense, but mostly Florida was on fire and converted 3-pointers at a rate that is unlikely to be repeated.

It's hard to see the Florida game as a fluke when Eastern Washington and UNC basically did the same thing. We're giving up 42% on 3-pointer this season.Â
Like Winflop said, I think this goes back to the absence of Sheffield and Pickens. Has anyone heard a timeline on their return?

Hence the words so far. So far I watched Florida until it was unwatchable and the boat race part of UNC. Hopefully the guys coming back are better than the guys out there or this is a long season.

EW was 11-25 (44%) and NC 11-26 (42%), while Florida was 15-22 (68%).
Nobody is denying that the team as currently constituted is overmatched, but Florida's 3-point blitz (13-18, 72% in the first half when they put the game out of reach) is an outlier. Nationally teams hit about 35-36%, so 40% (excluding the Florida game) is high, but 72% on 18 shots is not just loose perimeter defense.

I havent watched much. When I have their perimeter defense is awful. They dont rotate well and they dont close out effectively.
Re: MBB Florida -

True. But EWU also shot well above average from behind the arc. When you dont close out on the perimeter and teams get uncontested threes they are going to outperform their average.

Our 42% allowed on 3-pointers is 317th in D-I. That's bad.
