I hope the Love hype isn't peaking too soon. Timing is everything with these things.

North Woods - 10-15-2017
I can't find the original data on a website but according to a couple posts on Twitter it's actually 7/5, not 7/2. Barkley at 8/5, Mayfield and Barrett both at 7/1. Darnold now down to 35/1. Wonder how much those account for expected team results down the stretch vs. just individual performance to date?

Hope his injury is minor as seems to be initially thought. Good timing for a bye week in any case. Hope he will be full strength for the stretch run for both team and individual perspectives.

7/5 is crazy. Are you able to place bets against him getting it? I could never do it, but that seems like easy money. Some player on a top 5 team is going to win it with some big games down the stretch.

There's a big difference between 7 to 2 vs 3,720 to 1.

Barkley faces some really good defenses the next three weeks, starting with Michigan this Saturday night on ABC. If Love continues putting up 200 yds/game, he well could win the H trophy.
But he needs to do some more stuff in the passing game, IMO, to really solidify himself given he doesn't return punts and kicks.

He'll need to at least match Derrick Henry's gaudy receiving stats from 2015. So 91.

I love this field level view of Love's TD run, because you really get a sense of the quandary that defenders have with Love. Arrion Springs (#1) on Oregon comes up in run support, hesitates for a split second as Love disappears in traffic, and BOOM, Love cuts it upfield like he is shot out of a cannon. Springs doesn't have a chance.Â

Barkley is a very accomplished receiver and kickoff returner. This is part of his appeal as a candidate. If Love could add some receiving bona fides, he'd really increase his chances to be put in the same "all-around" discussion.Â
For me personally, I know people see the 50+ yard house call highlights, but Love wins me over because of what he does on the shorter runs for less than 10 yards. He has more power than people who only see him ripping off the long runs probably realize, so he doesn't have to be more involved as a receiver to win me over. But he very well might need to do it to win others over.
BTW, out of Stanford's next five games, all five will likely be nationally televised, and two of those five will be the only games being played at the time. So Love will get plenty of the national spotlight the last five weeks of the season.
Oregon State - Thursday night 9pm ET on ESPN
Washington State - Hard to believe this won't be on ESPN or FOX
Washington - Friday night on FS1
Cal - The rivalry games are always national
ND - All ND games are national
