Stanford in the NFL -
DC 86 - 09-10-2017
A few highlights:
Zach Ertz led Phl with 8 catches (on 8 targets) for 93 yards.
Austin Hooper with 2 catches (on 2 targets) for 128 yards and a TD (which featured a spectacular stiff arm).
Afternoon games just begun, Kyle Murphy started at tackle for Green Bay.

McCaffrey got his first NFL carry... went for 5 yards. Also has two receptions for 4 yards.

By the way.... that hooper touchdown was worth watching. He was so wide open that he could have walked into the end zone had the throw been good, but the ball was under thrown and Hooper had to come back for it. That gave the chibear DB a chance to catch up, but Hooper had the aforementioned spectacular stiff arm that left the DB on the ground.
Took a close (13-10) game and put it out of reach.

Also, Hogan did not play, but Keizer was sacked 7(!) times today. He otherwise had a decent game, but there are only so many hits the guy can take.

If you head over to Stanford Football on Facebook, they've posted a few pics of David Shaw w/ Thomas and McCaffrey today.

I agree, it's worth watching. Here's the link:

I felt a sliver of pity for the 5'11", 216 pound safety Demps. He's got some mileage, he's 32 years old. Hooper is a fresh, adrenaline-charged 6'4", 248-pound tight end with a head of steam who just
smashes Demps.

A couple other quick points. The ball was under thrown because Matt Ryan was under pressure. He got sandwiched between three guys just after letting it go.
This one will not go onto Demps' career montage. Not only did he get pushed to the floor by Hooper, but the whole reason Hooper was open was that Demps blew the coverage by double teaming the post receiver instead of picking Hooper up.

Watched some of the 49ers vs Panthers. The only S Thomas highlight I saw was a neutral zone infraction penalty. His number wasn't called while I watched. CMAC had a decent game. No spectacular plays while I watched but a few decent pick ups, in particular a screen pass that he was able to hussle for a 1st down to help set up an end of half two minute drill scoring. The commentators seemed to think he got more touches than he should have (although perhaps they were more noting how few touches the other Panthers star offensive weapons picked up). But they showed an interesting highlight where 3 49ers defenders were so focused on CMAC they left another Panther player wide open for a TD.

I believe Cmac was targeted in the passing game seven times catching five--more than any other receiver

Cam Newton definitely seems to trust him as an outlet. I think he also lined up in the slot a few times as well as the designed screen passes. The Panthers definitely see him as an important part of the gameplan.

CMac was listed as having lost a fumble. Anybody see what happened?

He was constantly getting open when he lined up in the slot. Newton was rusty and didn't fully take advantage, but McCaffrey was very savvy and effective out of the slot. He also had a nice 21 yard punt return that was negated by penalty.

He got stripped on a running play as he reversed field.

Just saw this eye-popping stat on Twitter:
First 63 career games...
Zach Ertz: 255 receptions, 2933 yards
T. Gonzalez: 256 receptions, 2955 yards
Jason Witten: 248 receptions, 2776 yards

And Harballs and Blake drafted McDonald ahead of Ertz. Shaw was on the field with spouse and kids and spent a long time with Lynch. You think maybe Darnold came up?

Sounds a lot like a team a few hundred miles to the west (and slightly south) of Cleveland.

It's weird, the Eagles fans I see on /r/nfl seem to mostly dislike Ertz. Whenever I watch one of their games (admittedly not often) he seems like he's been their best receiver, and while those guys started in a less pass-happy era that's still an amazing statline for a TE. I wonder what the knock is, any Eagles fans on here have any idea?

It's Philly man. They are happy when they are pissed off. I remember seeing a game in Schibe Park and they booed their best hitter, Richie (later Dick) Allen the entire game. While I'm on baseball, for Mick the Stat Man, Belt may be rated highly but he fails the Eye Test. Echoed by two ex- teammates who pitched in the Bigs.

Certainly agree with Phogge on Belt. "And it's a called strike three, Belt can't believe it".
In Philly with the family in the 90's and we are in a horse drawn carriage with a young woman driver. She says do you have any questions ? I say yes why did you boo Del Ennis so much ? Of course no one knew who I was talking about.Â
For kids lol Del drove in 95 or more runs 9 times in the 50s and they booed him like crazy when he failed
Anyone notice the bootleg did away with the Giants board ?
